SpongeBob is a character who is famous for being extremely kind and loving to others. Sure, he can be very annoying in the process, but it is never in a malicious manner. Instead, his optimism and childlike energy can be overwhelming for others to handle at times. However, with all of this being said, it is always especially strange to see him be mean to others in the series. Although it is quite a rarity, these moments are often the ones that stick in the minds of audience members.
In fact, there are certain instances in the series where he is downright awful to others around him. Now, it is understandable for characters to have their bad points, as they can not be perfect. Yet, SpongeBob really can take it to the extreme where it becomes impossible to justify his actions. Although he will forever be remembered for being a gentle and caring soul, fans should not ignore his worst moments, too.
10 When He Becomes King Of Karate
When SpongeBob is deemed as King of Karate, he and Sandy go to Karate Island for his ceremony. However, there something awfully fishy about this, as SpongeBob, of course, is not very good at the sport, while Sandy is quite the pro.
When Sandy expresses concern, SpongeBob not only brushes it off, but begins to act rudely. He claims that Sandy is jealous of his achievement and is rather pompous in the process. This leads to Sandy leaving him alone on the island, but she soon returns to save him when it turns out to be a trap.
9 When He Calls Patrick A Stupid Star
SpongeBob gets Patrick to enroll in boating school after the latter tells him that he misses him when he is gone. However, this turns out to be a mistake, as Patrick gets SpongeBob in trouble by continuing to talk to him. When SpongeBob yells at him after he refuses to get off his back, this leads to him losing one of his gold stars.
SpongeBob confronts Patrick about this after class, but it leads to chaos. When Patrick says who cares about a stupid star, SpongeBob goes on to say that he is one, which is just a bit too extreme for the circumstances. Although Patrick is certainly no saint, SpongeBob really is mean with that insult.
8 When He Makes The Nasty Patty With Mr. Krabs
After a health inspector visits the Krusty Krab, SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs worry that he is an imposter, as they see one on the news. As a result of this, they decide to give him the nasty patty, which is just as gross as it sounds.
When preparing the burger, SpongeBob drops it in the toilet and also puts seahorse radish on it, which he states is disgusting. It also turns out that the health inspector is actually a real one, so they do this heinous action for literally no reason.
7 When He Insults Patrick At The Fry Cook Games
When Patrick gets hired by Plankton for the Fry Cook Games, it creates a rivalry between him and SpongeBob. In fact, the bad blood between the two really is started by SpongeBob, as he states that Patrick is not qualified to be a fry cook like him.
The two begin to get into a verbal argument, and it leads to SpongeBob making fun of Patrick for not having ears. He also pokes fun at him for being pink, too. However, the true level of arrogance and just rude behavior by SpongeBob is so out of his character.
6 When He Makes Fun Of Texas
When SpongeBob makes fun of Texas, it is actually meant to be a way to get Sandy to follow him to the Krusty Krab. Sandy, of course, is about to move back to Texas, as she is immensely homesick. However, SpongeBob has a big party for her to try to get her to stay.
Yet, the insults that he makes about her home state are certainly not nice. With Patrick, the two continuously call Texas stupid, while also even saying the people there are, too. This leads to Sandy chasing them to the restaurant, where she is surprised and truly touched by the party. She stays, but SpongeBob is truly mean beforehand.
5 When He Insults Squidward For Not Working
After Squidward wrongfully gets fired after Mr. Krabs accuses him of stealing his first dime, he becomes homeless. This leads to SpongeBob letting him live in his house, which is immensely kind of him.
However, when Squidward takes advantage of SpongeBob’s hospitality, it sparks extreme anger from the latter. He does not handle it well, as he keeps making reference to Squidward not working and tells him to get a job with alphabet soup and even a puppet show. It just is a few steps too far from SpongeBob at the end of the day.
4 When He Choked Mr. Krabs
Later on in this episode, SpongeBob runs to the Krusty Krab to demand that Squidward gets his job back. Mr. Krabs refuses, though, as, even after SpongeBob throws a bunch of dimes at him, he states that nothing can replace his first dime.
This leads to SpongeBob choking Mr. Krabs and lifting him up in the air. He screams at him, saying that Squidward is driving him crazy at his home. The worst part about all of this is that Mr. Krabs’ giant first dime ends up falling out of his pants, so all of this could have been avoided.
3 When He Pushes Gary Way Too Hard
After Squidward adopts a snail, Snellie, he boasts about how she is going to win the big snail race. He then insults Gary for being far less superior than Snellie, which, in turn, leads SpongeBob to enter him in the race.
However, when training Gary, SpongeBob’s pride makes him push his pet way too far. At the time of the race, Gary is far too exhausted to even compete. When he does not start in time, SpongeBob screams at him and tells him he is blowing it. When Gary’s eyes and shell literally explode, SpongeBob realizes the severity of his actions, but it is far too late.
2 When He Makes Jokes At Sandy’s Expense
In this episode, SpongeBob tries his comedy act at the Krusty Krab, the audience hates it. It leads to a lot of heckling, but SpongeBob would then entertain them by making jokes at Sandy’s expense.
When Sandy asks him to stop them, he pretends like he is going to, but then keeps them going. It even leads to the people of Bikini Bottom to treat her differently, as they assume she is stupid because she is a squirrel.
1 When He Ties Mr. Krabs Up Thinking He’s A Robot
After watching a scary movie, SpongeBob becomes petrified of robots. This ends up being a major problem, as, after hearing Mr. Krabs request a song by using beep-bop noises, he believes he is one.
This leads to him convincing Squidward, too, so the pair tie Mr. Krabs up and cause him great harm. SpongeBob even slaps Mr. Krabs across the face a few times, as well. However, they find out that he is, in fact, the real Mr. Krabs at the end of the episode.
