76ers star Tyrese Maxey to reportedly miss the rest of the season due to finger injury

Maxey was in the midst of yet another strong season prior to the injury. After winning the NBA’s Most Improved Player award last season, Maxey averaged 26.3 points and 6.1 assists in 52 games this year.

It’s yet another frustrating development for the 76ers, who fell short of expectations this season due to Embiid’s knee issues. Embiid played in just 19 games after struggling with left knee pain. When he did take the court, Embiid didn’t look like himself. He averaged 23.8 points, his lowest per-game average since the 2019-20 NBA season. The 76ers shut down Embiid for the rest of the season in February. On Wednesday, it was reported Embiid would undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.

With Embiid sitting out to begin the season, the 76ers started and never recovered. At 23-53, and already eliminated from the playoffs, it didn’t make sense for Maxey to return to action even if he was cleared.

The 76ers have six more regular-season games remaining until the offseason. With Embiid and Maxey ruled out, the pair can focus on resting and rehabbing from their injuries in hopes they are back to full strength for the start of next season.
