Does Philippe Clement Have A Future At Rangers?

Does Philippe Clement Have A Future At Rangers?

I have seen some posters having a go at other posters for criticising Philippe Clement (PC) after Thursday’s result because he gets praised one week, then we’re shouting for his head the next.

Rangers getting a gubbing off of Lyon, (a team valued at over 200m, and who have spent well over 100m this season) has got nothing to do with me wanting him out. I posted on here that if we escaped with a draw in that game then it would be a great result, so I never expected much from it. However, during that game, PC’s decision making was all over the place, and the only good decision he made, was to remove James Tavernier (Tav).

If PC wants to get the fans back onside, a good starting point is to drop Tav and strip him of the captaincy. Another way to go about it is to start our best players in their strongest positions. The Albanian boy has to be played more centrally where I believe he’ll be far more effective. Also, put Sterling at RB, try Kasa at LB, and move Jefte forward. Jefte looks a cracking wee player going forward, but defensively, he looks weak.

PC needs to start making the correct decisions, and as our manager, he needs to instill a stronger mentality into our players. Our team is seriously missing that killer instinct, and that’s why we struggle in the league, and end up holding on for a narrow win. There’s no character in there anymore! We are seriously missing the strong character and presence of a Morelos, Davis, McGregor, Defoe, Arfield etc. When those guys were at their best, the team had steel, skill and an experience we sadly lack nowadays – it’s glaringly evident!

Unfortunately, I just can’t see PC as a manager who can change this! His team selections, tactics, substitutions, and interviews scream of a manager all over the place and losing the plot – and for that reason, I think he’s done for. I honestly think he has no idea how to sort this! And before anyone starts, I do feel that there are some factors in there that are out of his control.

As much as we would love to buy a hard as nails CD, who plays with steel and a bit of skill, who let’s very little get by him, we end up with Propper because he’s all we can afford! As much as we would love a winger who can dribble past the best defense and has that steely attitude where he holds no fear of getting tackled, and chips in with goals, we get Cerny on loan because that’s all we can afford! Things like that will never help us, or our manager, get out of this rut!

However, for everything that can’t help him, there are many factors within his control which can help him. Team selections, dropping players who are just not doing it, playing players in their strongest positions, tactics, the right subs, instilling a stronger mentality throughout the team.

But, as much as he needs to address all of the above, the most important of all the things he needs to make happen is to get a victory over the Tims (The League Cup is the perfect opportunity if we both get to the final). If he can nail these, then he might just have a future with us. If not, he’s gone!
