Terror situation worsens in Sahel after US pullout, say experts

In September, the U.S. military completed its withdrawal from Niger, where it had two bases that helped partners in the Sahel counter terrorism. The pullout came after members of Niger’s military staged a coup in 2023. The U.S. military says the withdrawal has had a major impact on efforts to fight terrorism in the region.
