Disappointing transfer window for Celtic. Is it a disaster. Probably not. We have 14 league games and a Scottish cup run left and are 10 points ahead with a game in hand. We aren’t losing 1 in 3 games. Let’s face it regardless who we signed we can’t compete with Bayern Munich no matter what that’s a two leg glamour tie with our best hope to scrape a draw at home and not be embarrassed away. I know that’s defeatist but it’s where we are at.
Must have been some interesting conversations in the boardroom though:
Brendan: Chris I think we need a LB, LW, CM and Striker this window to push the team forward.
Chris Nicholson: Brendan, done! Meet Jeffrey Schlupp.
What’s the old saying about being a jack of all trades and master of none. For what it’s worth I don’t think Schlupp is a bad signing just not sure it’s a good one on its own. He certainly has a decent pedigree palace fans seems to like him but he seems to have been that utility man everywhere that’s never cemented himself as a first team starter. But we will see how it goes.
For me the disappointment is in the planning ahead. Again we have left ourselves a lot to do in the summer. We are now arguably carrying a first team squad of 21 players when you take out the people who are never going to make it. So we need 4-5 players in the summer just to get back to a decent depth. That’s before we sell anyone.
Another disappointment is Tisdale although maybe harsh as he is only in the door a couple months. But all we seem to have been linked with is players we have been chasing for years such as Kvistgaarden, who we have been trying to sign since the late 90s now, Lennon miller, Jota, Ings, Tierney then the only player we sign on deadline day is a player we were linked with about 18 months ago. Is he just going through Mark Lawells old emails?
The only positive I can take is the amount of deadwood that has been shifted I am sure no easy task. We have been stockpiling deadwood for years. Getting rid of guys like Palma, Holm, Welsh, Bernabei allows us the space to bring the new blood in. The squad seems to now be players that deserve the chance to fight to play with the exception of Nawrocki and Yang, that’s my opinion. Move them on and recruit well and then we have a solid squad.
