Hearts, Killie, St Mirren and Dundee, all bottom 6 teams Glasgow Rangers have dropped points to this season. Queens Park, Championship team that knocked us out of the Scottish Cup.
Dynamo Kiev knocked us out of the 3rd qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. Finished 3rd bottom of the UEFA Europa League group of 36 teams. All defeats and dropped points against teams that we seem to be willing to blame injuries, rebuild, cutting the wage bill on for the defeats.
Dundee United, Celtic, Aberdeen and Motherwell (didn’t add Hibs as they were rank rotten when we beat them), all top 6 teams we have beat this season. Malmo, FCSB, Nice, USG, Olympiacos and Spurs, all teams we gained points from in the Europa League. All victories and draws where we aren’t blaming the lack of injuries, rebuild, cutting the wage bill, etc.
We can’t have it both ways. We can’t conveniently use these excuses time and again for below par performances. We can’t conveniently use the “low block” excuse for the failure to consistently put these teams to bed.
Lots of us would like to sign Cerny, but I expect more from a £8 million valued player against a lower league FB. Same goes for Hagi. Plenty were willing to pay anything on a weekly wage for a player who was woeful against a lower league FB.
The other week we were valuing some players in the £10’s of millions. And most put in a woeful performance against a lower league team. For me there are too many players cruising along at Ibrox – turning it on occasionally and wanting the full adoration of the fans.
Hard work always beats talent when talent does work hard enough. Cheesy? Aye. But totally true. As a club, we are at another crossroads. Someone needs to tell the Board they have hairy balls like the rest of us, not crystal balls. They continue to think Philippe Clement (PC) is the man to take us forward, and I no longer see that.
I said last week that PC would have to win the Scottish Cup and go on a long winning run in the League. Well, one is gone and I’m not so sure these players have consistent performances in them for a winning run in the League. I’ve been on the fence at times. Now it’s time to cut our losses. PC must go!
