I just wanted to write about the money Glasgow Rangers FC have spent on players since Giovanni van Bronckhorst (GVB). I have listed the players under each manager who I feel have been a waste of money. Feel free to disagree with me.
GVB: Davies €4.7m. Yilmaz €4m. Matondo €3m. Colak €2.5m. Zakowski €585k. Lawerence wages.
Michael Beale: Danilo €6.3m. Dessers €5m. Lammers €4.1m. Cantwell €1.71m. Cifu €1.4m. Dowell wages.
Philippe Clement: Diomande £4.3m. Bajrami £3.5m. Propper £1.5m. Jefte £680k. Cortes £4.5m. Barron £890k.
I used Transfer market and Rangers news as sources for values, that’s why they’re both in £ and €. I know the accuracy of these sources might be a little out, but the figures will not be far off.
The main reason I have listed these players as a waste is because currently Rangers have only won one League cup as it stands since GVB made his own signings in the summer of 2022.
GVB spent €14.8m. Beale spent €18.5m. Phil spent £15.4m. If you convert all to pounds sterling, it’s not far off £45m.
That’s an incredible cost for one League cup and proves beyond any doubt that we are signing players and implementing playing styles not suited for Scottish football. I also think that it proves that we must change how we scout and identify players and what tactics we use.
It’s extraordinary failures throughout our Boardroom and our football department. The fact that we are already out of both domestic cups and 13 points behind Celtic proves the same failures are still happening and show no signs of changing.
