Well guys, after catching up and watching the interview with Patrick Stewart, i have to admit my article titled ‘Time for Rangers to Transition’ was pretty close to what Patrick said.
He starts off by talking about the Rangers v Queens Park result and openly admits it was a source of shame for the club and it was a very good opportunity for the club to win a cup, which I know a lot of you on here did shout about and Patrick does agree it was and it’s a lost opportunity.
He also says openly that serious questions were asked around the club and that morale had been affected by the result, so that was very open and honest answers from him which I liked.
He goes back and reiterated what he said back in January that we have already changed manager and we have been underperforming for the past several years and it’s not been good enough. He says no point trying to fix the ceiling and have a quick fix, but he’s going into the foundations and starting from there and working upwards.
He also says he doesn’t want to jeopardise our Euro run at this moment and gives credit to the players and Philippe Clement (PC) for the results and making the last 8 in a very difficult Euro league, which I think we all agree on it’s a tremendous result. The fact he says he doesn’t want to jeopardise this could be something.
He goes on to say he will make the correct decisions at the correct times and won’t have a knee jerk reaction, which I also said in my article last week. But he did point out that everyone including himself is judged on results and this to me makes me think PC has to win most of the remaining games and possibly get through our next tie in Europe in order to remain as Rangers manager.
He also said he’s looking for a real reaction from the players and PC, so again points to possibly PC has to end of season to save his job with any more mishaps and I think they will remove him listening to this interview.
He also reiterated he’s not removed PC from his role due to finances as it would create false economy so that will help ease fans knowing money is not an object. But decisions will be made for the long term benefit of the club. He will continue to make statements only as when he feels he has something to update us, which is good to hear.
The internal review has already shown up a lot of insights and a new sporting director is now going to be sought by the club, but won’t be rushed and it will only be filled when they have the correct candidate. He will work in unison with Nils Koppen, who Patrick said he has been very pleased with. Nils has stepped up showing leadership and brought stability and he’s performed strongly. The new player trading model will get into full swing with an academy to the first team pipeline. And we need to be selling players at the correct time.
The External review has done research and put down bench marks for us against other clubs and where we perform and stand against other elite clubs. They are committed to making correct decisions at the correct time and he promised it’s going to be tough, but we will get there and we will be a successful club once more not be 2nd best.
All in all very, informative and open interview and enjoyed watching it. PC’s card has been marked now I reckon hearing that. So think we should all let this process complete as I stated last week and I think we’re going to have a big summer. So hang in there a little longer.
