As I’ve said since it was made obvious Barry Ferguson was to be interim Glasgow Rangers manager, I’m over the moon for him to be given his chance. I hope whatever happens, if he and the new coaching team so desire to stay, we can offer them all roles at the club in the summer. I honestly want them to stay.
We’ve had Steven Gerrard, Michael Beale, Giovanni van Bronckhorst (GVB) and Philippe Clement, none of them really know what’s it’s like to be a true Ranger, even GVB being a past player. Barry has grown up being a Ger, been captain, won trophy’s, he gets it and knows what it’s all about.
To me, Barry and Allan McGregor especially, will make a difference to our squad and would help any incoming manager if they don’t get to stay in position. No one will work as hard as these guys to try make sure we are successful.
It’s down to Nils Koppen to identify the correct players to make a strong squad and it’s down to whatever Board will be in place in the summer to grant us funds to give us a decent squad with a strong depth.
If we have the right quality of players who are willing to give it their all for the jersey, it will certainly make the manager’s job easier. Barry and co. will instill the passion and fight, that’s for sure, given time.
Anyway, no matter what happens between now and summer, I hope the Baz and the coaching team get a right good tune out the players and let fate take care of the rest come summer with whatever manager we end up with.
If and it’s a big if, Barry gets a chance, I’ll be right behind him. He looked the part on the sidelines last night, giving instructions and making decisions.
Lots of Rangers supporters may want Knutsen or Muscat as manager, but look what we’ve got, Barry is the only recent manager who truly knows what it’s like to be a real supporter and that might just speak volumes.
