Glasgow Rangers supporters don’t know what will happen this summer, but let’s make no bones about it, in the back of their heads, Barry Ferguson and the new coaching team would love the opportunity to make it a more permanent thing. I’ll bet they have already had the thought that if they do well, their names could be thrown in the hat in the summer, like i wrote in a previous post.
People might laugh if it was mentioned when people were calling for Philippe Clement (PC) to be removed the last few weeks that Barry Ferguson would be his interim successor. If people had known that at that time a couple weeks ago, would people have wanted it to happen? Would everyone who wanted PC gone still have shouted for his head to roll?
A lot of folk made it clear on rangersrumours.co.uk at first that they were not happy with Barry and the other ‘Rangers men’ being appointed. It might make no sense, but I like the idea of friends I know being on board, especially if the new team do well from now until the end of the season.
PC came with credentials and many people ended up calling for his head and let’s be honest, it turned toxic against him. With Michael Beale it turned toxic against him too. And when folk were not happy with GVB, the Board got rid at the drop of a hat.
Also, there’s no guarantee that Kjetil Knutsen or Kevin Muscat would be successful as Rangers manager or that they would even want the job given the DOF and that Nils Koppen is in charge of new players coming into the club.
As I’ve written before, at least Barry and the new coaching team get it, very much like the rest didn’t and there’s nothing to suggest any new manager will either. Barry and team have the same chance of success as anyone else with their team.
And to be honest, it’s really down to the new Board, what funds will be made available and what players Koppen can entice? Even if Jurgen Klopp was Rangers manager in the summer, if signings aren’t up to scratch, then even he would struggle.
I have never said Barry would be manager in the summer, i said if he does well and was offered it, i’d be right behind him. He probably can’t do worse than his predecessors and he would start off hopefully with more fans on side given his history at the club.
Let’s stop knocking our own ‘Rangers men’ when others with more experience and credentials have failed even when money has been thrown at them, i.e.
Paul le Guen.
Peace.
