The 50 Best Pizzerias in America for 2024, Ranked

For Anthony Mangieri, third time is certainly the charm.

The chef’s Una Pizza Napoletana in New York City has been named the best pizzeria in the United States for the third time in a row, the 50 Top Pizza guide announced at a ceremony on Tuesday evening. And N.Y.C. is clearly the pizza capital of America, with a whopping 17 restaurants appearing on the list.

“The American pizza movement is in great ferment, with a new generation of artisans increasingly focused on product quality and ingredients, which has gained strong momentum in the past year, including the introduction of tasting menus by many pizzerias,” Barbara Guerra, Luciano Pignataro, and Albert Sapere—the guide’s curators—said in a statement.

Following Mangieri’s spot, there was some movement among the honorees: Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco moved up to second place, after coming in fourth last year. And third place was taken by Pizzeria Beddia in Philadelphia, which didn’t appear on last year’s ranking at all. The top five is rounded out by Ribalta in New York City and Ken’s Artisan Pizza in Portland (up from No. 6 and down from No. 3 last year, respectively).

While no other city has been able to dethrone New York at the pinnacle of pizza, Chicago made a strong showing with seven spots, the highest ranked being Robert’s at No. 10. And Portland, Oregon, followed with six restaurants among the top 50.

Of note this year is the addition of a Best Pizza Slice category, honoring shops around the country that offer single-serve options. The winner there was L’Industrie Pizzeria in—you guessed it—New York City. Washington, D.C.’s Slice & Pie came in second, while Mineola’s Taglio took home third.

The 50 Top Pizza is considered by many to be the most influential pizza ranking in the world. Anonymous inspectors roam the U.S., evaluating pizzerias on the quality of their pies but also the attention given to the customer. The top 12 restaurants on this year’s list will automatically be entered for the 100 Best Pizzerias in the World ranking, which will be announced at a gathering in Naples on September 10.

Until then, we’re more than happy to indulge in the best pies stateside, maybe even dipping into one of those tasting menus the curators mentioned.
