Beach volleyball returns for the eighth time this year in the Summer Olympics. The sport debuted at the 1996 Games in Atlanta and has been a part of the Summer Olympics ever since with both men’s and women’s events.
The U.S. and Brazil are tied for the most medals in women’s beach volleyball with seven each but the U.S. holds the edge in gold medals with four to Brazil’s one. The two nations have met just once in the gold medal match during the 2004 Games.
Defending U.S. gold medalists April Ross and Alix Klineman will not be in Paris to defend their title. Instead, the two U.S. duos in the 2024 Games are Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss as well as Kelly Cheng and Sara Hughes.
Here’s what to know about women’s beach volleyball at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
