AC Valhalla Introduces Wrath Of The Druid DLC’s The Cursed & High King

Ubisoft spotlights two new characters set to appear in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s upcoming DLC expansion Wrath of the Druids.

Ubisoft has fully revealed two new characters poised to make their debut in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla‘s upcoming Wrath of the Druids DLC expansion. Wrath of the Druids was originally planned to release back on April 29 until Ubisoft delayed the DLC for two weeks, so it’s currently slated to launch on May 13 . The DLC is the first of two major expansions planned for the latest and greatest Assassin’s Creed entry.

Wrath of the Druids brings protagonist Eivor to ancient Ireland, where they must contend with a mythical druidic cult known as the Children of Danu. Information about the DLC’s plot, characters and achievements are slowly becoming available as the release draws closer. While Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has received some criticism for bugs in the base game – especially at launch back in November – the title has received praise for its thorough plunge into Norse and English culture, geography, and religion. In a similar fashion, the Ireland-set Wrath of the Druids is expected to provide players with the chance to learn more about Gaelic culture and mythology. The other highly anticipated expansion is the Siege of Paris, which is due to launch in Summer 2021. No release date has been confirmed for this expansion yet. In this one, players will sail to ancient France to conquer the city of Paris.

Wrath of the Druids officially launches this week, so Ubisoft has provided some more insights into the characters Eivor will encounter during their Irish travels. The official Assassin’s Creed Twitter account confirmed two new characters that will play important roles in the expansion’s story. One character is the High King of Ireland Flann Sinna, who served as the High King of Ireland from 879 – 916. The expansion is set in the year 873, so the plot may deal with Sinna’s rise to power. The other character confirmed by Ubisoft is simply known by its moniker The Cursed. They appear to be a Child of Danu member, the secret Druid cult that controls the power of the Irish gods teased in the main campaign.

Ubisoft has kept the content flowing for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla since last November. In addition to the major DLC expansions, smaller updates have launched along the way as well. The free content updates have been well-received, with last winter’s Yule Festival and this spring’s Ostara Festival recent examples of Ubisoft’s successful implementation of the games-as-a-service model to the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

Rumors of a third major story expansion have been circulating for some time, but those remain only rumors at this point in time. However, it will be interesting to see if Ubisoft announces any fresh post-launch content for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla at E3 2021 at its Ubisoft Forward presentation on June 12.
