Offscript, American Theatre’s flagship podcast for a number of years, is back as a Facebook Live chat with the magazine’s editors and special guests as well as an audio podcast.

This month editor-in-chief Rob Weinert-Kendt and associate editor Alexandra Pierson chat with critic Brittani Samuel about her experience covering this jam-packed Broadway season. Then Alli delves into dance with the Kuperman brothers, Tony-nominated for their choreography in the new musical The Outsiders. The brothers discuss the importance of partnership in fight choreography, the mechanics behind the production’s use of water onstage, and the show’s themes of brotherhood and belonging.

Originally from Canada and now based in New York, Rick and Jeff Kuperman are directors and choreographers for the stage and screen. Some of their credits include Cyrano (The New Group), Alice by Heart (MCC Theater), Dicks: The Musical (A24 & Chernin), Living With Yourself (Netflix), and Silent Retreat (Miramax). They are both graduates of Harvard and Princeton as well as third degree black belts in Kenpo Karate. They are currently co-directing and choreographing a new immersive show with the producers of Sleep No More.

Brittani Samuel is a New York-based culture writer, co-editor of 3Views on Theater, and a contributing critic for Broadway News. She is an alum of the BIPOC Critics Lab and the Eugene O’Neill National Critics Institute, and became the inaugural recipient of the Edward Medina Prize for Excellence in Cultural Criticism in 2022.
