Arsenal move for Arthur nearing completion

Arsenal is edging closer to a completed deal for Juventus’ Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo as the Gunners search for vital central reinforcements during the January window.

Goal correspondent Charles Watts reported earlier today that Arsenal is indeed in contact with Juventus over the potential move but La Vecchia Signora prefers to have a replacement secured before allowing him to depart the Allianz Stadium.

Juve, like Arsenal, is keen on Olympique Lyonnais standout midfielder Bruno Guimarães but is likely unable to make a play for the former Athletico Paranaense player given the finances behind any potential move.

It was also reported that Arthur is open to heading to Arsenal this month after logging just 426-minutes across eleven appearances this season in Turin.

According to a more recent report RMC via Get French Football, Arsenal is in advanced negotiations with Juventus which could signal an impending completed deal in the near future.

Gunners still on the tail of Fiorentina’s Vlahović

A completed deal for Arthur Melo would offer a financially viable and short-term solution in securing additional reinforcements in the center of the park for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, which may well allow the club to continue to push for Fiorentina’s Serbian starlet Dušan Vlahović.

Though Arteta refused to show any of the cards in his hand as the Gunners pursuit the former FK Partizan graduate, recent reports suggest that La Viola is fully prepared to accept the official offer on the table.

The question remains whether or not Vlahović is fully keen on a move to the Emirates after it was reported by the BBC while citing The Athletic’s James Horncastle that the 21-year-old hitman wants to move to a club that is in Champions League.

With Arsenal currently sitting in fourth and in pole position to secure the final sport for Europe’s top club competition, there are still no guarantees that Arteta’s outfit will outpace the likes of West Ham, Tottenham, and Manchester United come the end of the season.
