Chelsea youngster Webster credits two figures as training influences

Chelsea starlet Charlie Webster names the first-team star alongside Tuchel who has been ‘a major help’ since senior step-up

Webster gives credit after first-team stint

Chelsea academy starlet Charlie Webster can go back to Cobham thankful for his recent training stint in the first-team setup, and has seen fit to credit Blues boss Thomas Tuchel and key midfielder Mateo Kovačić for their guiding hands during that period.

When speaking with the club’s official website, Webster highlighted the pair for praise and gratitude after making the recent step up from the club’s developmental ranks amid fitness concerns at Stamford Bridge courtesy of both the injury bug and Covid-19;

“Even though I did not make my Chelsea debut, the experience has been surreal. I have taken on board everything that has been said to me and have just applied what I have known. Tuchel is a brilliant coach and I love his attention to detail. He made me understand that small details matter in every game.

Mateo Kovacic has also been a major help. He is one of the best central midfielders in the world and I have learnt a lot from him. Taking this experience back to the squad will hopefully ensure that my game improves; ultimately affecting the team in a positive way.” Note: quotes via Football.London

Chelsea starlet drawing foreign interest as Cobham continues to produce

Though a formal bid for Charlie Webster failed to materialize two summers ago, German giants Borussia Dortmund were said to harbor a serious interest in the Blues midfielder in what is a testament to the efficiency with which the club’s youth pipeline at Cobham continues to churn out gifted youngsters.

Since prior to 2015, Chelsea has pumped out one bright talent after the next in a veritable laundry list of players who eventually rose into the collective football consciousness both on English shores and abroad in Europe.

The Blues currently boast Mason Mount, Andreas Christensen, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Reece James, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Trevoh Chalobah in the first-team set up as former academy graduates, while many further still are either on loan for valuable minutes or have left the club in search of first-team opportunities.

Many will be hoping that Webster will look to take the same pathway as Mount and company, but should he leave, there will likely be yet another waiting in the wings just behind him.
