Chris Harrison is currently negotiating his exit from The Bachelor according to the latest report. Find out what is happening behind the scenes.
Longtime host Chris Harrison is currently negotiating his official exit from The Bachelor franchise with the producers and the studios behind the long-running series. Since the very first season of The Bachelor, Chris Harrison has been in front of the camera hosting the show and helping each of the leads have a good journey during their respective seasons. As the Bachelor Nation franchise grew and expanded with spin-offs such as The Bachelorette and Bachelor In Paradise, Chris Harrison was also involved in all of these projects.
Alas, contrary to many fans’ assumptions, Chris Harrison was never considered a producer on The Bachelor or The Bachelorette – he was always just hired to host these shows. There have been hosts such as Survivor‘s Jeff Probst who did manage to become executive producers of the shows they’ve hosted for so long, thus having more of a say in the decisions being made behind the scenes. But that was never the case for Chris Harrison, who found himself being at the mercy of the actual producers of The Bachelor once his problematic remarks to Rachel Lindsay became public.

For months now, Bachelor Nation experts and fans have been speculating about whether or not Chris Harrison would return to his hosting duties during Michelle Young’s season of The Bachelorette, or even during the still-too-far season 26 of The Bachelor. Now, an update has been reported by longtime THR editor Matt Belloni via his What I’m Hearing… newsletter. In the latest newsletter, it was revealed that Chris Harrison is currently in official negotiations to exit the series for good. The former host hired Bryan Freedman to litigate these negotiations, which are being held with ABC (as the network) and Warner Bros. (as the producing studio).
According to the What I’m Hearing… report, Chris Harrison is objecting to being “sidelined” from the franchise, and has allegedly hinted at revealing some damning information about The Bachelor creator Mike Fleiss. Overall, the allegations brought up by this report indicate that the negotiation between Chris Harrison and Bachelor Nation producers is not amicable at all at the moment. On the other hand, this report does shine a light on the current status of Chris Harrison’s official exit from the show. Some fans had imagined that there was still a chance that he’d be brought back, but that no longer appears to be even a remote possibility.
Judging by this latest report, Chris Harrison is not leaving The Bachelor without a fight, so more dramatic updates regarding his exit may follow. It was already apparent to the fans that things could have taken somewhat of an ugly turn behind the scenes, and this report seems to confirm those long-held suspicions.
The Bachelorette season 17 airs Mondays at 8 pm ET/PT on ABC.
