Co-op: Supermarket to install self-scanning checkouts in all central England stores

This is the latest move in Co-op’s bid to reduce single-use plastic and, consequently, decrease plastic pollution.

The scheme will see Co-op become the first UK shop to have fully recyclable food packaging by the end of July.

The grocer will launch recycling units for soft plastics in 1,500 of its stores this month, and a further 800 in shops by the end of November.

Shoppers will be able to recycle crisp packets, bread bags, single-use carrier bags, bags for life, lids from ready meals, yoghurt pots, and more.
