Following on from posts about signing a world class striker, we have been linked with a fair few like Osimhen, Sesko, Gyökeres etc. one player I haven’t seen us linked with yet is Alexander Isak. He’s been a revelation for Newcastle and although there is talk of injuries, he has only had one awful season and that was at Sociedad the year before he joined Newcastle.
2019-2022 he averaged 42 games a season in all competitions, so the claims of him being injury prone are massively over exaggerated. But I would go as far as saying that after Salah, he is the best finisher in the league. I am a Jackson fan, but he is better off the left for now as his finishing is inconsistent. A front three of Jackson, Isak and Palmer would be a front three to rival the top teams.
Don’t know how true it is but I’ve read Newcastle might sell one of Isak, Bruno or Botman to comply with regulations.
Isak is the only big signing I’d look at making in the summer. The rest of the signings depend on outgoings, but we do need a new LB also as I think Maatsen will leave. Done well in Germany but not sure his physicality is good enough for the prem. Chilwell is always injured. I think it’s time to try and move on and Cucurella is inconsistent. It wouldn’t bother me which one of them three stayed, but I’d definitely try to get a young left back in. Maybe the wolves lad Nouri or Locko from Brest looks a very Gusto like signing.
Mistakes have creeped in from Petrovic of late and although he’s still better than Sanchez, he can be improved upon. We only signed Sanchez cause we have the Brighton goalkeeping coach which is silly. Hopefully, we can move Sanchez and Kepa on while Slonina is still on loan, I don’t think he has done that well from what I’ve read. Rumours looking is with Bento from Brazil last few days but never seen him. The young lad at Valencia Mamardashvili also looks a good prospect.
As far as Centre Back goes, we definitely need a reliable, experienced centre half who’s not injury prone. Badiashille has been injured or dreadful when playing this season. Disasi I like his mentality and he doesn’t get injured, so he’s worth keeping. Colwill the best of the lot in my eyes but could do with a partner. Fofana is class and it should be him but he’s never fit. Fans at Bayern are baffled as to why Kim isn’t starting under Tuchel as he’s highly rated I think his age, physicality and reliability he’d be the one I’d pursue with Silva, Chalobah and potentially Badiashille (linked) could be leaving.
Apart from that, I just think we need a new manager who will make players look good again. Caicedo, Enzo and others will benefit from that. Some players are on a last chance saloon in my eyes injury wise. James has had surgery now, so if he gets injured again, it’s got to be time to cut ties. Fofana is another one we can’t have our best players being never available. Lavia, Chukwuemeka and Nkunku I will cut slack as it’s their first season, but it can’t keep happening next season. They’re all very good players too.
Incomings for me would just be Isak, Locko and Bento and hopefully moving on the likes of Lukaku, Broja, Sterling, Maatsen, Chilwell or Cucu, Badiashile, Silva, Kepa and Sanchez to balance the books.
Anyway, sorry to blabber on, but these are my current thoughts. Thanks.
