Denis Zakaria ‘discussed’ by Manchester United & appreciated by Rangnick

Denis Zakaria ‘discussed’ by Manchester United & appreciated by Rangnick

Manchester United’s midfield

It is probably safe to say that Manchester United are not currently the finished article and could still improve their squad in several areas.

One of which is central midfield.

It is well documented at this point that the main issue with United’s midfield at present is that they do not have a solid defensive midfielder on their books who can sit alongside someone like Paul Pogba to break up attacks and set the tempo of the tie.

Scott McTominay and Fred continue to be used as United’s main central midfield duo under Ralf Rangnick.

And whilst the pair have shown some quality of late, they could be improved upon or, at the very least, Manchester United could do with replacing Nemanja Matic, who is now well past his prime.

Manchester United discuss Denis Zakaria

One player who they could this with is Borussia Monchengladbach star, Denis Zakaria.

Zakaria joined Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2017 and has since gone on to firmly establish himself as a key cog at the base of Gladbach’s midfield.

The midfielder possesses all the key qualities required of a proper DM, including an impressive work ethic, ability to tackle and he is also decent on the ball.

What makes Zakaria an especially appealing option is that he is out of contract in June, meaning United could sign him for free in the summer or for a reduced fee this month.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has spoken out on Manchester United’s interest in the Swiss star.

Romano claims that Zakaria has been discussed at United as he is appreciated by Ralf Rangnick, but there is no official bid to Monchengladbach:
