The opening day of racing at Ellis Park was run on Thursday July 4th, but there were no fans in the stands at the thoroughbred horse track in Henderson.

This announcement came from Kevin Kerstein, who works in publicity for Churchill Downs and Ellis Park.

“Unfortunately today’s opening day card at Ellis Park will be closed to fans due to an unscheduled maintenance issue in the grandstand.

“All nine races are still on schedule to be run.”

A second post on X from Kerstein said “(Wednesday) night when storms hit the area there was an issue with power in the grandstand that knocked the water out. The water tank was able to fill up to a level to keep racing and backside operations on as normal but it is not to the level to open the grandstand for patrons.”

Racing is scheduled throughout this weekend at Ellis Park. The live racing meet is set run each weekend until it ends of Aug. 26.
