A Guernsey boxing club that had more than two tonnes of rubbish fly-tipped on its property has had it removed free of charge by a local company.
The Amalgamated Boxing Club revealed it would have to use some of its cash reserves to remove part of the industrial waste, bicycles and children’s toys.
JLC Paving offered to remove the rest for free and has since taken away all of the waste.
The firm’s owner Josh Le Cras, said: “When I saw that people had stooped so low as to dump rubbish there, I felt compelled to take action.”
He said: “I decided to clear the rubbish at the local boxing club as a a goodwill gesture after being shocked by the fly-tipping there.
“No-one makes any money from this club – it’s all about supporting the community.”
As the boxing club is on private property the responsibility and cost of the removal fell onto them.
There is one fly-tipping incident every week reported in the island, according to Guernsey Waste.
