Glasgow Rangers Players Review

From what I am reading today, it’s the same old targets who are getting most of the stick over yesterday’s Rangers v Celtic capitulation. There is no doubt that the manager’s tactics are all over the place but the players out on the park are the best at his disposal. ‘Captain’ Tav deserves the stick he is getting, he seems to have lost interest and is most certainly not leading the team in any way at the moment.

But what about the rest of the team? Butland was getting all the plaudits, but he was at fault for certainly the second goal and his positional sense just seems odd to me! He clearly has an issue with his left side and this is being cruelly exploited by our rivals.

Jefte looks like he has the touch to play on the wing, but his tenacity in jumping into challenges will see him punished too many times. He looks like an asset going forward, if we ever get the chance to attack that is!

John Souttar is not the best defender in the world, that’s clear. He is however the best performing defender for us just now. He was just about our best player yesterday and given we lost 3-0 is really saying something.

Propper – Seems to be off the pace, could be claimed he contributed to Macgregor’s goal but I’m not sure I would accept that. He seems like a stranger in there for the time being.

Diomande – I fail to see what he brings to this team, I have never seen him play at an acceptable level and so far is a waste of a transfer fee. I see him being the one that the fans want moved on at the end of the season.

Barron – Another candidate for our best player, he tried hard but struggled to get going. Potentially he could be the man to drive us forward but he can’t do it on his own – He also burst my coupon by not getting booked but I won’t hold that against him. 😉

Sterling – Another one trying hard, I have consistently said that DM was his best position but he struggled badly against them.

Matondo – Brutal, utterly brutal. Would run all day long but doesn’t have a clue how to put an end product in. Capable of scoring worldies but more likely to run into a defender and give the ball away.

Cerny – Still seem to be off the pace and a stranger in the squad. He showed just about enough to scrape a pass mark but need to up his game.

Dessers – Tries hard, seems like a nice guy and does actually score goals but his general play is just poor. Surely a run for Danilo to see what he can do needs to be considered? I like the guy, but he just doesn’t have it.

The only sub I will comment on is Ross McCausland – I’m sorry for the wee guy but he just isn’t good enough. Another who tries hard, and to be fair to him he’s one of the few who knows what it should mean to be a Rangers player.

I really feel that it needs to be said. Too many players are just not performing and we don’t have the squad depth to replace them. We are staring at a long hard season (or more) ahead!
