He took first place, ahead of his squad members Marcus Rashford (18 percent) and Bukayo Saka (13 percent). Radio and TV presenter Maya Jama also made the cut while pop singer Dua Lipa, the Queen and England captain Harry Kane featured in the top 10 list.
To mark Southgate’s victory, artist Nathan Wyburn created a portrait of him made entirely out of ice cream ingredients, including cones, sauces, hundreds and thousands, wafers, and chocolate flakes.
It used around 100 cones, 50 scoops of ice-cream, 3kg of raspberry, chocolate and caramel sauce, 1kg of hundreds and thousands, 75 chocolate flakes and 250 wafers.
Ardian Mula, CEO of Foodhub, which commissioned the research and portrait to mark National Ice Cream month, said: “Celebrating what Gareth Southgate has done for this country is really important and we wanted to do it in a way that is true to the Foodhub ethics.
“So, as desserts are now a big part of the takeaway delivery business and it is officially National Ice Cream Month, making a portrait of Gareth out of ice cream cone ingredients was a no-brainer.”
Nathan Wyburn, who designed the ice cream portrait of Gareth Southgate, added: “What Gareth Southgate and his team have done this year – to get to England’s first final since 1966 – was an incredible achievement that really resonated with the nation, especially after such a difficult 16 months of lockdown.
“It’s been an honour to create a portrait of him to celebrate his achievements – and using the ingredients of the classic ice cream cone, while a real challenge, makes perfect sense too with National Ice Cream Month being celebrated this month.”
