You could say a certain Republican lawmaker ended up with egg on her face — at least in the metaphorical sense, because no one can afford actual eggs nowadays.
On Wednesday, Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-Wyo.) spoke at a town hall in Laramie, Wyoming, to a crowd of mostly very angry constituents. Hageman was booed numerous times throughout the event, and the crowd got particularly incensed whenever the congresswoman spoke of her support for billionaire Elon Musk.
One of the more humorous — and unsettling — instances was captured in a clip aired on MSNBC, in which Hageman told the crowd that she had voted to pass a funding bill “that keeps the lights on for President Trump and DOGE to continue their work.”
The majority of the crowd jeered loudly in response, prompting Hageman to enthusiastically clap for herself amid the chorus of boos.
This clip is only slightly funnier than another clip MSNBC aired of Hageman describing the town hall as an opportunity to update her constituents on what she’s been up to in Washington, only to have a heckler respond: “Nothing!”
Hageman brought up Musk numerous times throughout her town hall, to the audience’s disdain. She insisted the unelected “special government employee” running the so-called Department of Government Efficiency — which has spearheaded the firing of thousands of federal workers, some of whom have since needed to be re-hired — is doing a great job.
Other clips shared on X, formerly Twitter, of Hageman’s town hall show the crowd chanting “Deport Elon! Depart Elon!” as she waves off the boos as “hysteria” and tells audience members they are “going to have a heart attack if you don’t calm down.”
At one point, a former federal employee who lost their job in Musk’s mass layoffs confronted Hageman from the crowd and told her Trump’s leadership would ultimately “decimate Wyoming farms and rural communities” before asking her what she was going to do about that.
Hageman didn’t answer, but simply said: “I disagree.”
