Home Bargains has announced all 500 UK stores will be closed on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day this year. The retailer will also be shutting shops at the earlier time of 5pm on Christmas Eve- differing from the usual closing times of 8pm during the week and Saturdays, and 4pm on Sundays.
The company says it wants to give its employees more time to spend with their loved ones over the Christmas period.
A spokesperson said: “We recognise how incredibly hard all of our colleagues have worked over the last year, to continue to serve the local communities that rely on them so much.
“In light of this, we felt it was only right to reward store teams by taking the decision to close all of our stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, and also close stores early at 5pm on Christmas Eve.
Other supermarkets who stayed shut on December 26 last year include Aldi and Asda – but both have yet to reveal their plans for 2020.
Sainsbury’s and Tesco stayed open but operated under reduced hours on Boxing Day last year.
