A new gameplay trailer for die-cast racing game Hot Wheels Unleashed reveals the game’s vertically-focused Skyscraper course and more classic cars.
A new gameplay trailer for Hot Wheels Unleashed has revealed a new map and new classic cars. The upcoming toy-sized racing game, based on the popular Hot Wheels brand of die-cast toy cars, is being created by developer Milestone. The game is set for release on September 30, 2021. But a Hot Wheels gameplay trailer released earlier this month reveals some unique mechanics that should excite racing fans such as boosting, drifting, and racetrack shortcuts.
While the release of Hot Wheels Unleashed is still months away, new details about the title’s gameplay have slowly been revealed by Milestone. Many of these features are hallmarks of classic arcade racing games, but Hot Wheels Unleashed will bring these mechanics to current-gen consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. A Hot Wheels gameplay showcase, released shortly after the gameplay trailer, also revealed that the game will have boss fights. While details about how these boss fights work were not revealed, it can be assumed that bosses will take the form of particularly challenging races.
Now a new Hot Wheels Unleashed gameplay trailer, the Skyscraper Unveil, has been posted to YouTube by Milestone Team. The trailer reveals the game’s second map, the large and vertically designed Skyscraper, which is sure to offer a lot of variety compared to other courses. Players are able to jump between floors of the construction zone, and some sections of the course even take players around the exterior of the building. The trailer also reveals several classic Hot Wheels cars, such as Buns of Steel and Motosaurus, which will be part of the game’s roster of die-cast vehicles available at launch.
Whether the focus is on die-cast models or realistic performance vehicles, racing games remain an extremely popular video game genre. It was recently announced that Gran Turismo, the classic racing simulation series from developer Polyphony Digital, will appear as part of the 2021 Olympic Virtual Series. This year esports will officially be added as an Olympic category, and racing simulation has been added as an integral part of the experience.
Hot Wheels Unleashed may seem like a silly premise at first, but the game is shaping up to be a fantastic racing experience. The game will have an abundance of content, with multiple varied levels to explore and boss fights to overcome, and each of the game’s vehicles is lovingly translated from real-life Hot Wheels vehicles. The Skyscraper course’s focus on verticality will surely make it stand out among the rest of the game’s levels.
Hot Wheels Unleashed is scheduled to release on September 30, 2021 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
