The Glasgow Rangers players can’t seem to get themselves pumped up for domestic football, and goalkeeper Butland is no where near good enough, though he said himself a few times over past 12 months that he’s not great and we need better.
I just don’t rate him and someone else said we always have had great keepers in the past, but Butland is no where near it. I’m not sure why he gets constantly gets picked and yes, Barry Ferguson picks him. I can remember way back shouting for McCrorie to get his chance as no. 1 keeper and I honestly think if we held on to him, he would have been a better keeper than Butland has been for us.
Let’s talk realistically, are we now looking at another dead rubber of a season this coming season? Are we a club that’s so broken we can’t entice, find or pay for a decent manager who’s able to turn a squad into a decent hard working team who will give its all through the entirety of a season?
If we can’t get a good manager and a squad that he, the club and the fans can rely on to turn up and give an honest showing of themselves, then I dread to think about next season.
At a bare minimum, we probably need the addition of 5 players and possibly a handful out the door to sustain a challenge throughout the entirety of next season, but I just can’t see that happening and ideally, the squad needs a bigger overhaul than 5 players for suspensions, injuries and rotation throughout the season.
The positive outlook I was having has been sucked right out of me reading some of the comments over the past 6 months or more. Takeover or not, if we still don’t get the basic fundamentals in place we aren’t going anywhere.
I hope the 49ers know exactly what their walking into because by the sounds of it, we can’t do what Celtic did when they lost the league. They came straight back the following season after a decent summer transfer window and took it straight back. If the 49ers are serious, they need to do what’s needed and remove the dead wood one way or another. I don’t care how they do it, just get rid.
I’m also going to add that there seems to be some amount of personal dislike of Barry Ferguson on rangersrumours.co.uk that goes beyond his managerial skills. A club legend who many would have sang songs and cheered with joy when he was our captain, when we were lifting silverware.
And because he’s come in at a minute’s notice to take on a bunch of players who have shown for far too long that they’re not interested in the supporters. Or the Rangers Board don’t care that we don’t win silverware and probably laugh at the fans behind closed doors whilst picking up a hefty pay packet the fans help pay for.
But it’s all Barry’s fault. Not even Nils Koppen gets mentioned or any previous DOF who sanctioned signings of these players.
If we can’t lose the majority of the players in the summer, god help the new manager. I hope he has a really good clause in his contract that when these same players throw him under the bus, he will get a good pay off.
I wouldn’t touch this job unless there was a guarantee that these current players will be gone in the summer. It’s not worth putting your reputation on the line anymore. It’s a disgrace saying that, but it’s true.
