Former Bachelor host Chris Harrison posted a heartfelt exit statement. Were negotiations with ABC really that amicable? A source reveals the truth.
Former The Bachelor host Chris Harrison announced his official departure with a nostalgic, heartfelt social media post…but how does he really feel about leaving the franchise? After months of tumultuous fallout following his defense of Rachael Kirkconnell in an interview with Rachel Lindsay, the large exit payout surely put Chris in a better mood. Still, Bachelor Nation fans can’t help but wonder if there’s more to the story, especially considering the rumors that he threatened to expose the dirt on ABC.
Chris announced his final decision to leave Bachelor Nation on June 8 after months of speculation. The signs of Chris’s permanent departure were there for a while, but became more obvious in recent weeks. To start, there was the news of celebrity guest hosts taking over Bachelor In Paradise. It was also looking increasingly unlikely Chris would be coming back for the next Bachelorette season. Not that long ago, the possibility of the franchise not being hosted by Chris Harrison seemed impossible. A source close to the TV personality hinted Chris himself felt the same. The anonymous insider indicated the situation has been quite a wave of mixed emotions for Chris.

An inside source told E! News exclusively, “Chris is saddened to leave The Bachelor franchise. It was his whole life and identity for many years and he was hopeful he would continue his contract.” Though the insider didn’t specifically mention the threats of exposing ABC, they did confirm he “has been in tough negotiations for weeks.” The source claimed Chris hoped to return next year, but added, “Ultimately, the studio decided this was what’s best.” On defending Rachael Kirkconnell, the source claims, “He knows he made a mistake but was hopeful forgiveness would be granted.”
Rachel Lindsay ultimately accepted Chris’s apology, but the incident also led her to leave Bachelor Nation. Just recently, Rachel revealed Chris’s insensitive comments still haunt her. The insider also made it clear that, much like fans speculated, Chris “had an idea that his end was coming.” He had time to process the change, as he “had a feeling months ago and really came to terms with it.” Despite his sadness, the source made it clear he is moving on. “He is grateful for the conclusion and payout,” the insider added, “He wants to focus on other business ventures.”
The host’s Instagram announcement was met with plenty of supportive comments from Bachelor Nation. As for the future of the Bachelor franchise? Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe made their debut on Monday’s Bachelorette premiere, and Reality Steve has been teasing some of the famous names reportedly set to host BIP. Still, it seems ABC has yet to decide on a permanent replacement.
