J. Jonah Jameson Is Joining the Sinister Six To Kill Spider-Man

Under the influence of the symbiote suit, Spider-Man has gone on a murderous rampage, and J. Jonah Jameson is joining the Sinister Six to stop him!

Warning: contains a preview for Spider-Man: Spider’s Shadow #3!

J. Jonah Jameson is teaming up with the Sinister Six to help kill Spider-Man! While Marvel’s mainstream continuity recently saw Jonah and Spider-Man bury the hatchet, Spider-Man: Spider’s Shadow imagines a world where Peter Parker never ditched the symbiote suit that would eventually become Venom. In this What If…? story, an enraged Spider-Man badly injures Jonah, leading the newspaper editor to throw his support behind the Wall-Crawler’s deadliest villains.

After Peter’s new mean streak prompts the Hobgoblin to kill Aunt May, Spider-Man killed the villain and embraced a lethal new approach to his enemies. Spider-Man is slowly losing control and is attacking his enemies with a ferocity never before seen; in the previous issue, he assaulted J. Jonah Jameson at the Daily Bugle offices, as retaliation for the editorials calling him a “menace.” This move has proven to have serious consequences for Spider-Man, and fans learn what they are in this special preview.

The preview opens with Jameson alone at an abandoned house, questioning his actions. Four members of the Sinister Six reveal themselves: Rhino, Electro, Mysterio and Kraven the Hunter. Readers learn that Jameson is throwing his lot in with the villains to bring down Spider-Man. Though gathered by Doctor Octopus, the group are then met by Eddie Brock, who killed the villain and took his mechanical arms. When Jameson asks where Octavius is, Brock cryptically replies, “He’s not coming.” Jameson learns the Six have created a trap for Spider-Man and now it is just a matter of waiting for him to take the bait.

While Jonah objects to Brock taking Octavius’ place, the hardened villains aren’t concerned, and the plan to ambush Spider-Man where no other heroes will be around to help moves forward. The sight of J. Jonah Jameson allying himself with cold-blooded killers like Electro and Kraven shows the depths of desperation he has sunk to; it also shows just how out of control Spider-Man is under the symbiote’s influence. Thankfully, the villains aren’t the only ones hoping to confront him, as Reed Richards and Captain America work to bring Peter Parker in for his own good.

While Spider-Man: Spider’s Shadow has shown the dark path the hero would have traveled had he kept the symbiote, Peter isn’t the only one giving in to their worst instincts. Tragically, he has dragged others down with him, as J. Jonah Jameson has made a dark deal with the Sinister Six in the book’s third issue. Coming June 9 from Chip Zdarsky, with art by Pasqual Ferry, colors by Matt Hollingsworth and letters by Joe Caramanga, Spider-Man: Spider’s Shadow #3 will see Peter face the consequences of pushing his most savage enemies too far.
