Chris Eubank Jr.’s eggs-tracurricular activities seem to have started a trend.
After the IBO middleweight champion went viral for slapping Conor Benn in the face with an egg at their recent first faceoff ahead of their all-British mega-fight on April 26 at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, social media star turned boxer KSI followed suit and smashed a pancake across Dillon Danis’ face when the pair went head-to-head Tuesday at the kickoff press conference to promote their Misfits Boxing 21 match at Manchester’s AO Arena on March 29.
Eubank Jr. slapped Benn in the face with an egg as a reference to the “highly-elevated consumption of eggs,” which led the World Boxing Council to clear Benn of doping in 2023. KSI hit Danis with a pancake as retribution for Danis’ actions several years ago — and because today is National Pancake Day.
KSI was initially announced to face Danis in a Misfits Boxing match in November 2022. When they went face-to-face in the lead-up to that booking, Danis sucker-punched KSI with a left hand, causing the scene to descend into chaos, with security guards forced to restrain KSI from attacking Danis.
Not only did Danis punch KSI, he also ended up withdrawing from that scheduled bout shortly before it was supposed to take place in January 2023 because he was underprepared and struggling to make the weight, leaving KSI and Misfits Boxing with no opponent just 10 days out from a pay-per-view event.
Before KSI struck Danis during their face-to-face on Tuesday, things got lively at the Misfits Boxing 21 kickoff press conference. After some negotiating, KSI and Danis agreed that if either one of them wins by knockout in their Misfits headliner, the victor will inherit the other one’s purse.
KSI and Danis were also asked for their predictions, with the pair giving vastly different answers.
“Knockout. I’d like to do it in Round 4,” KSI said. “I feel like Round 1, he’ll probably try it, see he can’t do anything to me, and then he’ll just close up, become a punching bag, and then it’s just me breaking him down for a few more rounds. And then [in] Round 4, I just let him know what time it is.”
“Choke him unconscious,” Danis responded, “and then stomp at his head as he’s f***ing dead.”
