Organisers of the Malaysian music festival Good Vibes Festival announced on Monday (Jul 1) that the event was cancelled “out of respect” for the upcoming coronation ceremony of Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar, the 17th King of Malaysia, which is set to be held on Jul 20 at Istana Negara.
The cancellation came hours after Malaysia’s Central Agency for Application for Filming and Performance by Foreign Artistes Committee (JK-PUSPAL) issued a statement, asking organisers to reschedule concerts involving foreign artistes on Jul 20.
Citing its guidelines, JK-PUSPAL said that organisers are prohibited from holding such concerts on dates deemed unsuitable by the government.
Good Vibes Festival 2024 had been scheduled to take place on Jul 20 and 21 at Resorts World Awana in Genting Highlands, with a line-up including Glimpse Of Us singer Joji, South Korean singer-rapper Bibi and South Korean DJ Peggy Gou.
