The McPlant burger will be making its long-awaited debut in the UK this month. The new product – which McDonald’s claims will appeal to all burger lovers – contains a plant-based patty, vegan cheese and a new vegan sauce.
The McPlant has been co-developed with meat substitute firm Beyond Meat and is said to mimic the taste and texture of McDonald’s famous beef. It hasn’t been confirmed exactly what the McPlant burger is made of, but Beyond Meat has previously made patties from beetroot juice, potato, coconut and yellow peas.
The vegan cheese is made from pea protein and is also said to emulate the taste of McDonald’s regular dairy cheese.
The McPlant will also feature a vegan sesame bun, mustard, ketchup, new vegan sauce, fresh onion, pickles, lettuce, and tomato.
“As with every McDonald’s offering, we take our time to ensure it meets the highest standards and is something that all our customers will enjoy.
“We are always looking for different ways to innovate and meet our customers’ needs, and with McPlant we have a delicious plant-based burger that will appeal to everyone. Whether you are vegan or just fancy a plant-based patty, we are confident you will enjoy the McPlant.”
McPlant will be available in 10 restaurants in Coventry from September 29 and will make its way to more than 250 stores from October and nationwide from January. For a full list of restaurants click here.
