Moves I Would Make As Manchester United Manager

Moves I Would Make As Manchester United Manager

The January 2025 ‘If I were boss, which I ain’t, so it almost certainly wouldn’t happen’ thread.

Boxing clever for me would see a busy January:

Martinez needs to be sold because he looks like he simply cannot fit the requirements for this system (£40m? ) and an offer of £30m being submitted for Valencia’s Gasiorowski who is tailor made might get us ahead of the pack looking at a high-ceiling, left-footed, ball-playing, physical, CB with 6 months left on his contract.

But firstly:
Juventus having their bluff called with the offer of Zirkzee for £20m.
Yes, that’s an annoying loss on what we paid for him, but that purchase was one more of convenience than anything else. Now that his confidence will be in tatters because of the cheering clowns, what convenience is there left for him at United? As for the club, needs must and we do need a proper LWB.

Then:
The return of Alvaro Carreras for £16m.
Now let’s not be ridiculous, neither of Alphonso Davies or Nuno Mendes will be coming to United – 100% and full stop. The idea that Mendes might somehow forsake the importance of making the right choice for his career when approaching his prime years to work with Amorim again is one of the most desperate things I’ve heard for some time, especially given the recent condemnation of the principle of familiarity favoured by his predecessor.
Far too much flaky noise is being made of PSG’s aim to fill their squads with French players – the actual flesh to those bones sits in their academy structures and rather less so with their current first-team squads. If the media garbage was true, we wouldn’t have got Yoro – don’t be so jeffing naive.
Mark my words, Mendes will not be coming.
Neither will Milos Kerkez who would, ahem, slot so snugly into, ahem, Slot’s system that it’s almost a given.
We probably won’t interest Miguel Gutierrez and we certainly won’t be seeing Theo Hernandez.
Let’s be frank, Alvaro might not even want to return and, tbf, I wouldn’t blame him. However, he is the only sensible option for LWB at a compelling price who might be interested.

Hopefully we can then get the Martinez/ Gasiorowski deals done and, with surplus, then have around £15m left to buy Rayan of Vasco da Gama for the right-sided 10 role and keep Amad, on a new contract, at RWB.

The promotion of Bianchieri to the first-team picture.

While I’m pretty sure we won’t be relegated, this season is all about learning for Amorim and the likes of Martinez and Zirkzee must have already made it clear to him that they aren’t suited at all to his system. I can see it, as can many others, so Amorim certainly can.

But hey, I ain’t the boss and likely none of this will happen.

What be your ‘I’m not boss, but I wish I was’ January moves?
