My Top Ten Glasgow Rangers Issues

In the cold light of day, we Glasgow Rangers fans have witnessed another loss to Celtic FC. I hoped for a win or a draw and a good performance, but we fell short. I have many concerns, but realism needs to take hold before the pitchforks and flares are out to burn Ibrox down.

One win in the last 12 Old Firm meetings is horrendous, but we have a team in total flux. A lot of players gone to trim wages, otherwise we could end up in a further disaster, which would be worse than a loss against them – believe me!

We should have a mantra pinned to the wall of Ibrox, which says previous Boards slept when they progressed. Even in our biggest triumph in the last 10 years our title win to stop the 10 is a prime example of where we fell asleep and they saw a need for true change and embraced that challenge.

Those on high, sat back in their armchairs, smoked cigars and thought that dominance was about to start after our solitary title by gifting the already well paid more lucrative contracts which we were eventually shafted for (you know the main culprits – one being our current so called captain) – obvious faults at board level.

My top Ten Rangers Topics:

1. How long will we take to understand how to play against McGregor and Kyogo? – Philippe Clement (PC) take note

2. It is very obvious that we have no true leader or captain on the park. Tavernier is just going to tarnish his legacy with Rangers. But he was well paid to stick by us in lower leagues. Now is the true time for his departure. His demeanour on the park just oozes the loser mentality and seems to accept defeat as soon as we ship a goal (usually from his side of the park). And he gives zero motivation to those around him – go to Saudi please

3. PC needs to address the team selections and hopefully soon get a settled team on the park. Surely he sees that Tavernier should be dropped

4. Matondo will not do for us as he is a total enigma and an extremely overpaid enigma – time to move on

5. Young Barron tried his heart out yesterday, but had no real support around him. The battle was won convincingly by Celtic in midfield even without their £30 million man

6. We spend too much time with balls moving across the back four and our keeper, which screams of latent errors to occur (pet hate of mine). If you watch them, the priority is to shift the ball through midfield or direct to the front almost straight away. This needs eager intelligent runners which yesterday we did not have

7. Butland – suspect for goal no matter what he says

8. Dessers – how many chances does he need to score?

9. Realism – last week many had us as superstars after beating a less than average team 6-0. A team who lost to lowly Spartans in the cup just a week earlier

10. Shouting for our manager’s head is appalling considering we have had to trim wages bring in almost a new team and still try to integrate the players which we already own and can’t get rid of – Dowell, Matondo et al.

Igmane looked good on the ball in flashes. Barron ran his guts out, so some mild positives but we will just take another giant leap back if the manager is chased out given the flux and team changes (which needed to be done financially) that have been carried out over the last few months.

We need to win the bread and butter games between now and the next Old Firm game. Give our best in Europe, which actually may suit us more and then and only then can we truly judge this new squad and the tactics. Remember, they have spent upwards of £17 million on 3 players and we have not had that cash to revamp a full team. Let’s put things in true perspective.

Also, Stevie G’s record against them was hardly awe inspiring and we had a stronger team supposedly at that time too. You can buy talent, but a true will to win and fighting attitude comes from within and that’s what many of our current players lack. Keep the faith lads and allow the new players to blend, but the bottom line is we need a leader and true captain on the park ASAP.
