A distraught Matt Hudson-Smith had gold snatched away on the line in a 400m final won by American Quincy Hall.
The Wolverhampton athlete was leading into the closing stages when Hall found another gear to clinch gold with his final few strides, leaving a disbelieving Hudson-Smith four hundredths of a second behind.
Lin Yu-ting faced more XX chromosome protests in the ring as she became the second controversy-engulfed boxer to sail into a women’s Olympic final.
Just like the scenes of her quarter-final, there were crossed fingers from Turkish opponent Esra Yildiz Kahraman in apparent dismay at the Taiwanese twice failing sex tests.
Great Britain’s hopes of gold in the men’s cycling team pursuit at Paris 2024 slipped away on the last lap of the final after Ethan Hayter lost control of his bike and narrowly avoided a nasty crash.
Nevertheless, the medal was Britain’s 1000th in Olympic modern games history, according to the official stats.
In the women’s bronze-medal race which followed, GB were behind Italy for much of the race but came storming back in the final kilometre to win by two-and-a-half seconds.
Also at the velodrome, Emma Finucane made it through in the women’s keirin and likewise Jack Carlin in the men’s sprint.
In dramatic morning of athletics, Team GB’s 5,000m hopeful George Mills fumed at his French rival following a collision that sent he and three other athletes tumbling to the floor. Following a review of the footage by officials, Mills will race again in Saturday’s final.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen won his 5,000m heat on Wednesday morning, after Tuesday’s 1,500m final disappointment, but he had to dodge a stray cameraman who was wandering into the middle of the track.
Australian hockey player Tom Craig was arrested on suspicion of buying cocaine in Paris following his participation in the Olympics.
Michelle Obama has vigorously defended Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles after an NFL player described the pair’s behaviour on the podium as “disgusting”.
A Palestinian athlete walked out to the hostile sight of Israeli flags being waved by spectators in response to his name being called out at an Olympics taekwondo bout.
At Le Golf National, it was a day to forget for Charley Hull who toiled to a nine-over par round of 81, while GB’s Andy Macdonald, the oldest-ever Olympic skateboarder and cheered on by skateboarding icon Tony Hawk, failed to make it through the preliminary rounds.

Anning looks major GB medal hope after running PB
Amber Anning confirmed her status as a major medal hope in the women’s 400 metres, qualifying for Friday’s final in a 49.47sec personal best that only narrowly missed Christine Ohuruogo’s 11-year British record.
Fresh from anchoring Team GB to their bronze medal in the mixed 4x400m relay, Anning continues to go from strength to strength in 2024 following her graduation earlier this year from the University of Arkansas.
She sealed her place in the British Olympic team by winning the national championships in June and a series of personal bests look increasingly likely to end on Friday with surpassing the 49.41sec that Ohuruogo ran in winning the second of her two world titles.

Ethiopia’s Girma stretchered off after horror fall
Earlier, in the midst of the evening’s action at the Stade de France, Ethiopian runner Lamecha Girma was taken to hospital after hitting his head in a dramatic fall on the final lap of the men’s Olympic 300m steeplechase final.
Girma, who is the current world record holder and won Tokyo silver, clipped his knee on a hurdle and fell head-first onto the track. The race continued in his absence, with medics coming onto the track and placing him in a neck brace before he was stretchered off. He was taken for assessment in hospital and, according to reports, was conscious and speaking.
In Girma’s absence, Morocco’s Sofiane El Bakkali went on to retain his Olympic title after holding off Kenneth Rooks of the USA and Kenya’s Abraham Kibiwot but the 23-year-old’s fall was a jarring turn.
09:40 PM BST
Hudson-Smith’s remarkable comeback from rock-bottom
Matt Hudson-Smith’s medal is another remarkable achievement following a courageous comeback from a series of setbacks, injuries and personal challenges over a three-year period he once referred to as “absolute hell”.
A series of lingering injuries to his Achilles, hamstring and hip beginning in 2019 were among the reasons he was forced to miss the Tokyo 2020 Games.
Those issues also led to Hudson-Smith losing his sponsors and – without insurance – crushing financial debt.
Hudson-Smith’s mentor Lloyd Cowan passed away aged 58 that January, the same year that he found himself isolated in America, far away from family and friends during the Covid-19 pandemic.
After winning 400m bronze at the 2022 world championships for his first major medal, Hudson-Smith revealed he had tried to commit suicide during that difficult period.
He has surged since hitting rock-bottom, following that bronze in Eugene by taking 400m silver at the Commonwealth Games in 2022, then gold in both the 400m relay and individual 400m at the European championships that year.
In 2023 in Budapest, he upgraded that world bronze to silver, setting what was then a new European record of 44.26 seconds in the process.

Gender-row fighter Lin Yu-Ting into 57kg final
Elsewhere, it’s a unanimous victory for Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yu-Ting, who didn’t drop a point on the judges’ scorecards.
Her opponent Esra Kahraman opens the ring for Lin and they have a respectful handshake, but as Kahraman thanks the crowd she holds up an X signal in protest.

A first gold for Jamaica in discus, more Aussie gold in the pole vault
09:02 PM BST
Not a classic evening of athletics for GB
A first ever Jamaican discus gold for Roje Stona, who set a new Olympic record in the process. Nina Kennedy of Australia, giving it some every time she cleared the bar, a popular winner of the pole vault. And an incredible final lap in the steeplechase with Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco prevailing, but a horrible fall over the penultimate hurdle for the Ethiopian Lamecha Girma who did not get back to his feet and has been taken away on a stretcher. Thus concludes this evening athletics. Not a classic for Great Britain, although Hudson-Smith’s silver nothing to be sniffed at.

‘Sometimes the journey’s better than the outcome’
Matt Hudson-Smith has just been speaking to the BBC after narrowly missing out on the gold medal. He’s all smiles however, and is grateful to have had the chance.
He said: “Sometimes the journey’s better than the outcome and it has been a hell of a journey.”
On losing out on gold in the last few strides: “I ran it exactly the way my coach told me to. We knew it was going to come down to the last 50 and I thought I had it but he had an extra gear. I hit the gear a little bit too late.as we came up he had one step on me and that was it. But I’m healthy, this is just the start and time to build. My time is going to come.
“I thought I’d cleared the field. I knew someone was going to come, I wasn’t trying to ease up, I was running to the line. He got me on the line, it happens.”

Watch: Matthew Hudson-Smith’s finishes JUST short of Olympic gold
08:31 PM BST
Finish worthy of gold from Hall
Hudson-Smith is gutted to have missed out here. Heading into the final stage of the race it looked like he had put enough distance between him and the rest but he just could not hang on.
Quincy Hall is such a strong finisher and he clinches it in phenomenal fashion. He is the one to ring the bell and deservedly so.
08:25 PM BST
Hudson-Smith agonisingly close
He looked completely in control until the final few strides. He’s denied by an explosive late surge by Quincy Hall of the USA.
It’s silver for Matt Hudson-Smith.
08:21 PM BST
We’re all lined up
What a prospect this is. Can Hudson-Smith bring home the gold?
08:17 PM BST
It’s almost time
This is the big one. We’re only five minutes away from the men’s 400m final.
And Team GB’s Matthew Hudson-Smith is the favourite and for him only gold will be good enough here.
08:13 PM BST
PB for Anning, disappointment for Nielsen
Personal best for Amber Anning, narrow second in her semi and into the final. Laviai Nielsen did not look happy with her third-placed finish or perhaps it was her time of 50.69 which disappointed her. She was on to something if so, she just misses out on the final with that time.
08:12 PM BST
Anning turns on the afterburners to reach final
The 23-year-old shifts up the gears to keep up with Poland’s Natalia Kaczmare. An impressive and committed race from Amber Anning. She’s into the final.
08:06 PM BST
Nielsen misses out on final
Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic finishes ligthtyears ahead of the rest.
Laviai Nielsen’s 50.69 seconds will not be enough. Having already won a bronze medal in Paris she will at least not be heading home empty-handed.
Amber Anning is up next!
07:59 PM BST
Another false start and a yellow card for GB
Team GB’s Laviai Nielsen has just been shown a yellow card after a false start. That’s two in a row in these 400m semi-finals.

More British involvement coming up
A very field-heavy last half an hour which while perfectly diverting has felt like a bit of a lull. Many fans taking the opportunity to buy an €8 Coke (paid for with Visa, of course). Hope they didn’t miss a new Olympic record in the discus.
Back on track (arf) now for the 400m semis, where Victoria Ohuruogu has finished a distant fifth in the first race, but there is British involvement in the next two as well.
07:54 PM BST
Ohuruogu in fifth

Great Britain win 1,000th Olympic medal
Great Britain’s silver in the men’s team pursuit at Paris 2024 is the team’s 1,000th medal in Olympic modern games history, according to the official stats.
The records go back to Athens 1896 when weightlifter Launceston Elliot secured silver in the two-handed lift.
Britain is believed to be the only competing nation to have won a gold at every Games since. At Paris 2024, GB has for the first time in its history also secured a medal on the opening 12 days.

Watch: Lyles’ subdued second-place semi-final finish
07:18 PM BST
Lyles adding to his pre-race hype routine
Noah Lyles seems to be adding his element to his repertoire of pre-race camera vamping before each event. A tongue and finger-twirling routine this evening scoring highly on the technical judges’ scorecard. He’s well behind Tebogo from Botswana in that semi, though, although his passage to 100m gold was not straightforward either.
07:14 PM BST
Noah Lyles back on the track
The world’s fastest man is back to channel his main character energy into this 200m semi-final.
He hasn’t come out on top here though. It’s second by a fair bit.
06:59 PM BST
A nasty-looking fall
Yeesh, nasty-looking fall four hurdles from the end for Alastair Chalmers, echoing the Lina Nielsen moment from yesterday. Fairly sure the only two hurdlers to end up on the track during six 400m semis were the two Brits. A horrible way for your Olympic involvement to end.
06:57 PM BST
Chalmers hits the deck
Ouch. A clip and a heavy fall for Chalmers. He was beginning to fall behind the pack but got tangled awkwardly with the seventh hurdle and ended up sprawled across the track.
He does well to immediately haul himself up and continue but that will be the end of his Olympics.
06:54 PM BST
Chalmers goes in the 400m hurdles
GB’s Alastair Chalmers is set to go in the third semi-final of the men’s 400m hurdles.

Bronze for Team GB in the velodrome
A controlled, composed, speedy ride from Elinor Barker, Josie Knight, Anna Morris and Jess Roberts, who moved into the lead in the final 500 metres. Their Italian counterparts were in pieces, they couldn’t keep that pace.

No shock or shame
Sobering sight on the big screen before that second 110m hurdles semi, when Tade Ojora’s world ranking was displayed: 59. The fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth best in the world were also in that race so no shock or shame to his seventh placed finish. He started brilliantly but clipped a few on his way down and was well beaten in the end.
06:22 PM BST
Ojora battles to seventh
A tough one for Tade Ojora, who finished just at the tail of a strong group. 13.47 won’t be good enough.
Jamaica’s Rasheed Broadbell gets his nose over the line just ahead of Crittenden, with Senegal’s Louis Mendy just behind.
06:15 PM BST
Ojora lines up for the hurdles
Team GB’s Tade Ojora is ready to go. He’s in lane 3 next to the Freddie Crittenden of the US.

Team GB athletes to watch out for
Before Matthew Hudson-Smith goes for gold and potentially a world record, Tade Ojora is about to head out for the men’s 110m hurdles semi-finals at 6.05pm.
Also to come:
-
6.35pm – Alastair Chalmers in the men’s 400m hurdles semi-finals
-
7.45pm – Amber Anning, Laviai Nielsen and Victoria Ohuruogu in the women’s 400m semi-finals

Bonsoir from Stade de France
Bit unsure about whether we’re in bonjour or bonsoir territory at this time of the evening here in Paris. Have had some funny looks for premature “bonsoir”, always after roughly 7pm, but think it might be linked to sunset. Still plenty of daylight left so perhaps safest to stick to English. Hi.
A rare outing for the Bahrain national anthem inside the Stade de France where the 300m steeplechase medallists are having their moment on the podium. Winfred Yavi won the woman’s event last night and marked it with one of the most gleeful celebrations of the Games so far, in a crowded field. She does not look like she’s stopped smiling since.
British interest tonight peaks with the involvement of Matthew Hudson-Smith in the 400m final. Some chat that he could break the world record this evening. He has run quicker than anyone else in the final this season but would have to find a further .72 improvement for that.
All that to follow, plus a novel new take on the 110m hurdles by the looks of things:

Silver for Team GB after last-lap disaster in men’s team pursuit
Australia have won gold as Team GB suffer broken saddle in dying seconds of a close final
+0.168 lead for Australia into the final 250 metres in an enthralling, close contest, but as it looked like going all the way to the wire, Team GB rider suffered a broken saddle and nearly came off his bike.
That was the end of their challenge, as he struggled to control his bike. That could have been worse.
Gold for Australia, silver for GB.

Athletics underway
Another busy evening of athletics has kicked off at the Stade de France, starting with the women’s pole vault final. The event will not feature British record-holder Molly Caudery, who crashed out after her risky qualification strategy backfired.
Team GB’s hopes are on Matthew Hudson-Smith, who is aiming to become the first British winner of the men’s 400m Olympic gold in 100 years. That’s at 8.20pm. World’s fastest man Noah Lyles is also in the 200m semi-finals at 7pm.

Team GB men and women in team pursuit finals

Penalty kills off medal hopes for Beckett
Australia’s Matt Wearn takes the gold to become a double Olympic champion, successfully defending his title from Tokyo.
It was far from the race Mickey Beckett wanted and needed, a second penalty turn killed off the momentum he was building down the final stretch. He finishes sixth in the overall standings.
03:26 PM BST
Beckett struggles to get going
In very light winds, everyone is searching for the small pockets that will give them the edge.
GB’s Mickey Beckett has struggled to get into position for a charge towards a medal place. The 29-year-old is sitting in seventh coming into the final downwind leg.
03:17 PM BST
Good afternoon
Jordan Young here, taking over from Daniel for the duration. We’ll continue to follow Charley Hull, who is having a torrid time at Le Golf National in the first day of the women’s golf. The nation’s top ranked and world number 11 is still sitting way down in 58th on nine over par.
The wind in Marseille has now picked up enough for the men’s dinghy medal race to get the go ahead. Team GB’s Micky Beckett is in action now.
Later on in the velodrome, a clash between Britain and Australia in the men’s team pursuit final is due to go at 5.30pm, with the GB women up against Italy for bronze shortly after.

Macdonald a crowd pleaser
Three clean runs from Macdonald, who betters his score each time.. but his best of 77.66 falls well short of the top eight. The crowd aren’t happy and boo loudly when his score is shown on the screen.
But the guy’s just happy to be here and is heroically embodying the Olympic spirit. He gets a standing ovation for his final run.. and the cameras pan to legendary American skateboarder and Macdonald’s hero, Tony Hawk, who is one of those on his feet clapping.. Macdonald might have been lacking in his repertoire of tricks but he’s been a crowd pleaser.
02:39 PM BST
Andy Macdonald finishes 18th
The 51-year-old has missed out on qualification after finishing eight places below the cutline, but he was given a warm ovation by fans in Paris.
02:38 PM BST
Skateboarding music choices
Ally he skateboarders are allowed to chose a song to perform their run to and Macdonald chooses ‘Return of the Mack’ – the 1996 hit by English singer-song writer Mark Morrison. A perfect choice. He nearly puts down a first clean run but ends up overdoing it on one of his tricks and he flies out of the bowl and lands on his backside. Crowd don’t care – many of them are on their feet applauding him – and old Macdonald is all smiles.
02:12 PM BST
Charley Hull finishes nine-over in the women’s golf
Hull is sitting deal last on the leaderboard after a nine-over 81 while Team GB’s Georgia Hall is also three-over. Hull still searching for her best form after an injury-hit 2024.
02:00 PM BST
Andy Macdonald is about to begin his Olympics at the skateboarding park
You can read all about the man who will shortly become the oldest-ever Olympic skateboarder in Paris and also Britain’s first male competitor in the sport.
Andy Macdonald , the 51-year-old ‘rad dad’ repping it for Team GB in the men’s park skateboarding, is a few moments away from becoming an Olympian. He’s more than three times the age of the youngest competitor – and is old enough to be the dad of 16-year-old Viktor Solmunde of Denmark. The San Diego native, who qualifies to represent Britain through his Luton-born dad, has just begun warming up inside the park and soaking in the atmosphere and Place de La Concorde. He’s got company in the prelims – South Africa’s Dallas Oberholzer is 49, but hasn’t managed to qualify for the final.
Macdonald draws huge applause as he’s introduced and a huge grin spreads across his face. He holds up five fingers on one hand and an index digit on the other in a nod to his age. What a legend.

South Korean pistol shooter Kim Ye-ji has thanked billionaire Elon Musk for making her world famous after she became an overnight social media phenomena, with users praising her confidence and style.
Kim has gone viral across social media during the Games and drawn in new fans. Her style, featuring futuristic eye-glasses, a cold look and a stuffed elephant toy dangling from her waist – catapulted her to stardom.
Some social media users praised her confidence and manner, while other compared her to fictional spy James Bond, prompting recognition from big names, including Tesla CEO Musk.
“I received a lot of unexpected attention and I believe it’s thanks to Elon Musk rather than myself. So, thank you,”

Not the start Charley Hull was looking for
Charley Hull in all sorts of trouble here in the first round of the women’s golf tournament.
The top-ranked Brit is seven-over after 11 holes and her challenge to emulate Tommy Fleetwood’s heroic efforts in grabbing silver on Sunday already appears doomed.
The organisers decided to use the same yardage on first hole as the men, to give the women the full experience with the fans congregated around the teebox.
As it has proved, this opening day has seen far sparser crowds and there is not much atmosphere to speak off. Hull duly pulled her drive into the water on the par-four and, from there, took a double bogey.
The world No 11 steadied the ship with four straight pars but has now made five bogeys in her last six holes.
Hull injured her shoulder due to a “nasty fall” at the start of last month and after missing the cut at the Evian Championship – the fourth major of the season – the 28-year-old still does not look anything like 100 percent.
It will be interesting to see if Hull makes all 72 holes here, with the Women’s Open taking place at St Andrews in two weeks’ time. Her misery will be compounded by the fact that smoking is banned at the Olympic venues.
World No 1 Nelly Korda two-over after 10 holes and world No 4 Jin Young Ko on four-over at the same point. Conditions at Le Golf National are decidedly tricky.

Mutaz Barshim through but treated for injury in the high jump
Joint-defending champions Gianmarco Tamberi and Mutaz Barshim advanced to the high jump final but it was anything but smooth as the Italian had three fails at 2.27 metres and his Qatari rival cleared it only after lengthy treatment for an injury.
Three years ago the pair agreed to share gold after asking permission from the event officials in one of the most memorable moments of the Tokyo Olympics. Three days ago, however, Tamberi posted a picture of himself in a hospital bed after being taken ill with what he thought might be a kidney stone.
It delayed his travel plans to France, and, coming after a troublesome thigh injury, it was hardly the ideal build up after things had been looking good in June when he won the European title in Rome with a 2.37 jump that remains the highest anyone has managed this year. Tamberi, sporting full length tights, opened with 2.20m but appeared unhappy with his narrow clearance. He made it over 2.24 but, stripped down to his shorts, failed three times at 2.27. That left him in sixth place but still comfortably among the 12 advancing.
11:38 AM BST
Max Burgin also through in the 800m heats
All three Team GB men have booked their place in the semi-finals. Like Pattison, Burgin strong in the home straight although that race looked harder work for him than it did Pattison.

Ben Pattison wins his 800m heat
The Team GB runner showed a serious turn of foot off the home bend, and picks off his rivals in the straight. Rewarded for a patient run that allowed him to move through the gears late. Another Team GB runner through, along with Giles.
11:22 AM BST
Giles second in his heat
That was an impressive run given his light preparation, and Giles is through to the 800m semi-finals.
11:21 AM BST
Mills makes it through after review

Men’s 800m heats
Elliot Giles is running for Team GB after replacing the injured Jake Wightman. Ben Pattison and Max Burgin are up for Team GB in the later heats.

It’s been really hard with us at the end of the championships, but I’m just blessed to be here and I’m happy that I’m healthy, so I’m very excited and I know there’s a lot in store.
Honestly, I think I’m ready for a medal. I definitely feel capable. I need to put some parts of my face together but with god’s grace, I’ll be alright.

To the men’s 3m springboard diving
After round two, Jordan Houlden of Team GB is on 153.00 points in third but Jack Laugher is temporarily top of the leaderboard on 174.20 after two dives. They are in a very strong position to secure their place in the final.
I say temporarily, because Wang of China has just pipped him with his second tie. The top 12 from 18 go through to the final.

Cindy Sember finishes second in her 110m hurdle heat
It was a slow start for the Team GB hurdler but she finishes strong to qualify for Friday’s semi-final. Camacho-Quinn looked dominant in victory, Sember will need to improve out of the blocks to reduce the deficit.

Gold for Spain in the marathon race walk
The Spanish pair finish well clear of Ecuador to take the gold medal. Perez punches the air and roars with delight as she runs, sorry walks, through the ribbon. Spain convincing winners by 51 seconds, with Australia taking bronze.
Spain’s final time was 2:50:31 for the traditional marathon distance of 26.2 miles.

The first women’s 110m hurdle heat…
Tobi Amusan of Nigeria wins it with a time of 12.49 followed by Alaysha Johnson of USA. Team GB’s Cindy Sember is in heat two up against defending Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn.

Double-bogey in the end for Charley Hull
In better news, her tee shot at the par three second was a cracker so she has a chance to get one of those shots back. Water off the tee, three putts, just a horrible start on Le Golf National’s opening hole.

Charley Hull finds water off the first tee in the women’s golf
Too much draw with a fairway wood on her opening tee shot and it bounds into the lake. Hull will be playing three from down there. Alongside Hull in a headline group, 21-year-old Rose Zhang also finds the drink. A surprising start from two players of such quality.

Josh Kerr has spoken to BBC radio about last night’s 1500m epic
The atmosphere was pretty electric in the Stade de France. I knew with the sheer amount of noise it would push the pace faster and it was about weathering that storm early and staying as relaxed as you can.
The screens were not showing our race that much and I could feel there was couple of guys with us – I knew I was going to need another gear down the home stretch.
It is difficult to have regrets in a fast race like that.

Going into the final leg of the marathon race walk
The men are handing over to the women for the closing stretch. Alvaro Martin of Spain and Brian Pintado of Ecuador have separated themselves, and it fact it is the Spaniard who has streaked clear. It looks between those two teams for gold and silver, and possibly between Italy and Australia for bronze. The front two are 44 seconds clear of the rest.

The first group has teed off in the women’s golf
Charley Hull off in a little more than 35 minutes. The opening couple of holes at Le Golf National are dangerous with water lurking left on both.

At the halfway mark of the marathon race walk…
The Australian Montag hands over to her male team-mate Cowley and they have the halfway lead. Peru are in second, followed by Mexico. The women now need to recover and refuel before the final leg.

We are close to the handover after leg two in the marathon race walk
Mexico’s chances have been stymied by Gonzalez having to stop twice to tie her shoelaces. Unhelpfully, the judges have been dishing out penalty cards but these decisions are not relayed to coverage, so we only find out retrospectively. It looks like a stack of teams, including Brazil, have one red card.
The front three teams are currently Ecuador, Australia and Peru. We are 18.4km into the race.

The diving will start at 9am
Team GB’s Jack Laugher and Jordan Houlden are in the men’s 3m springboard semi-finals. Team GB’s divers have already delivered four medals, and Laugher and Houlden are through to the last 18 of this event.

The women’s golf starts this morning
Charley Hull will be teeing off at Le Golf National at 8.44am and, as you can read here, she will have to cope without any nerve-settling cigarettes on the course. A smoking ban in France? You won’t be allowed wine with lunch next.

We are just reaching the end of leg one in the marathon race walk
Ecuador have made a break for the front, followed by Germany, Japan and Spain. They are race walking at a pace of around 3 minutes and 40 seconds per kilometre, which is faster than most people would jog.

What’s on the Olympics agenda this morning
Good morning and welcome to our live coverage of day 12 of the 2024 Paris Olympics and we start with the mixed marathon race walk.
This new event was unveiled in April last year and features four legs of between 10km and 11.75km, with one woman and one man on each of the 25 teams competing.
As the name of the event suggests, athletes are not allowed to run so one of the main curiosities for the uninitiated spectator is the question of penalties. Competitors can be given red cards for bending the knee or not keeping one foot on the ground. A team with three red cards will be given a three-minute penalty.
Later this morning we have the women’s 100m hurdle heats where Cindy Sember is the Team GB interest. Sember ran at Rio 2016 but a litany of injuries scuppered her chances in Tokyo. With a cleaner bill of health, hopes are higher this time around for the Michigan-born sprinter who qualifies for GB through her mother.
Team GB’s Micky Bennett will be racing for a medal in sailing just after noon, before attention turns to track cycling where women’s Katy Marchant races in the keirin first round.
The familiarisation session for the marathon swimming event in the Seine river will also go ahead as scheduled today after water quality tests met thresholds, organisers said.
A similar session planned for Tuesday had been cancelled due to concerns over water pollution.
A meeting was held on water quality early on Wednesday and attended by representatives from World Aquatics, Paris Games organisers and other stakeholders involved in carrying out the tests.
“The results… reviewed during the meeting at 4 a.m. have been assessed as compliant by World Aquatics, allowing for the familiarisation session for the marathon swimming to take place,” World Aquatics said in a statement.
