Player Changes That Might Happen At Liverpool FC

Hi all. It’s my first post here. I was thinking ahead to the Liverpool FC squad for 25/6 and thought I’d lay out how things are shaping up to get an idea of what changes might occur. I’ve thrown in a few linked players too. This is just for fun and for people who like long reads. I’d like to read what people think. It’s been a great season and kudos to all the players and Mr Arne Slot – The Boss.

GK: Alisson (32)
GK: Georgi Mamardashvili (24)
GK:? Vitezslav Jaros (23)?
Loan / backup options: Harvey Davies (21), Kornel Misciur (17)
Sell / Release: Caoimhin Kelleher (26), Jakub Ojrzynski (22)

Our goalkeeping situation will see Kelleher leave in search of a No. 1 spot. Mamardashvili will arrive as backup to Alisson, and heir apparent, having cost us c. £25-29m last summer – an amount we would likely look to recoup through Kelleher’s exit. Davies and Misciur have signed extended deals suggesting they will seek development loans or be used as third choice options. Jaros and Ojrzynski are both out of contract in June. Jaros could possibly be offered a deal to act as third-choice goalkeeper next season – a cheap in-house solution.

LB: Andy Robertson (30)
LB: Kostas Tsimikas (28)
LB:? (Antonee Robinson (27), Fulham; Milos Kerkez (21) Bournemouth; Jorrel Hato (18), Ajax)
Loan / backup option: Owen Beck (22), Calum Scanlon (20) Luke Chambers (20)

Robertson is under contract until 2026. Although his form has been patchy in comparison to his world-class best, he is still a valued member of the first team squad. I’d expect he will likely be offered a new deal that reflects his diminishing status. If he rejects a deal, and a bid for him were to arrive, perhaps some future-proofing could be looked at in this area, with Robinson, Kerkez and Hato linked. Hato’s ability to play at LWB and CD is interesting.

Continuing with Robbo would be fine with me. His solid rotation with unsung hero Tsimikas has played a vital role in our good form. Tsimikas has been pressing for a starting spot of late, is signed up until 2027, and unless a bid prises him away, he should continue to contribute and maybe get a shot as a starter.

RB: Trent-Alexander Arnold (26)
RB: Conor Bradley (21)
RB:? (Joshua Kimmich (30) B. Munich; Jeremie Frimpong (24), B. Leverkusen; Anton Gaaei (22), Ajax)
Sell / Release: Calvin Ramsay (21)

The Trent situation will largely dictate what happens at RB. Bradley is contracted until 2027 and should also be offered improved terms. We’re a bit thin here, particularly if we lost the versatile Gomez who can fill in at RB if needed.

CD: Virgil van Dijk (33)
CD: Joe Gomez (27)
CD: Ibrahima Konaté (25)
CD: Jarrel Quansah (22)
CD:? (Murillo (22) N. Forest; Castello Lukeba (22), RB Leipzig; Dean Huijsen (19), Bournemouth)
Loan / backup option: Amara Nallo (18)
Sell / Release: Nat Phillips (27), Rhys Williams (24)

Hopefully van Dijk will sign up – he’s invaluable. Konate’s contract expires in 2026, and he has been offered a new deal. LFC will want to avoid another ongoing contract saga. Hopefully he signs up too. Gomez is signed up to 2027, but a bid could prise him away. Quansah is signed up long-term.

DM: Wataru Endo (32)
DM: Ryan Gravenberch (22)
DM:? (Martin Zubimendi (26), R. Sociedad; Angelo Stiller (23), VfB Stuttgart)
Loan / backup option: Tyler Morton (22), Stefan Bajcetic (20)

Endo is signed up until 2027 and has proved a useful squad player. Unless a bid prises him away he’ll stick around. Some extra quality would not go amiss, however. We’ve been fortunate that Gravenberch has been ever-present. Alternatively, perhaps Morton or Bajcetic can step up in pre-season.

CM: Alexis Mac Allister (26)
CM: Dominik Szoboszlai (24)
CM: Curtis Jones (24)
CM: Harvey Elliott (21)
CM:? (Frenkie de Jong (27), Barcelona; Carlos Baleba (21), Brighton; Sverre Halseth Nypan (18), Rosenberg)
Loan / backup option: James McConnell (20), Trey Nyoni (17)

Elliott’s future is perhaps most in doubt, but we’re a bit light in this department if he leaves. Mac and Szoboszlai have rarely been injured. Elliott could have seen more gametime otherwise. Jones has filled in wonderfully when required. Perhaps another youngster can step up here if needed?

IFL: Luis Diaz (28)
IFL: Cody Gakpo (25)
IFL:? (Karim Adeyemi (23) B. Dortmund; Matheus Cunha (25) Wolves)
Loan / backup option: Lewis Koumas (19)

Two quality players here. Diaz’s contract runs until 2027. A big bid could perhaps prise him away if he won’t sign a new deal. Chiesa could perhaps offer an in-house solution if Diaz leaves.

IFR: Mohamed Salah (32)
IFR: Federico Chiesa (27)
IFR:? (Arda Guler (20) R. Madrid; Johan Bakayoko (21) PSV)
Loan/ backup option: Ben Doak (19), Trent Kone-Doherty (18)

Hopefully Salah stays. If not, we’ll certainly need a quality replacement. Even if he does stay, a young talented backup would be most welcome. Chiesa’s future looks uncertain and will likely depend on whether others leave and give him a shot at extra minutes.

CF: Diogo Jota (28)
CF: Darwin Nunez (25)
CF:? (Alexander Isak (25) Newcastle; João Pedro (23) Brighton)
Loan / backup option: Jayden Danns (19)

Concerns over injuries and form respectively could see Jota and / or Nunez leave if the price is right. Slot doesn’t seem convinced by either. This could be where the money is spent this summer. It should be interesting. What do you all think?
