Police shoot suspicious person near Israeli Consulate in Munich

Israel’s Foreign Ministry said the consulate in Munich was closed when the shooting occurred and that no consulate staff had been affected by the incident.

German police in Munich said officers fired shots at a suspicious person on Thursday in an area near the Israeli Consulate and a museum dedicated to the city’s Nazi-era history.

According to a statement on the social network X, the person was hit by the gunfire, but no further details were provided. It also said that there was no evidence of additional suspects connected to the incident.

The motive behind the individual’s suspicious behaviour has not been immediately disclosed.

The incident took place in the Karolinenplatz area, near Munich city centre. Police said they had increased their presence in the city, Germany’s third-biggest, but they had no indication of incidents at any other locations or of any other suspects.
