Printworks has unveiled record-breaking footfall numbers following its spectacular Christmas lights switch-on, held last weekend. The event marked a significant milestone for the Manchester destination, showcasing its transformative £27m investment, which has solidified its position as a pioneering hub for entertainment and leisure.
As the only city-centre location to host its own Christmas lights switch-on, Printworks attracted thousands of families, achieving a remarkable 58 percent year-on-year increase in footfall compared to the same period in 2023. The event also delivered the highest Friday attendance in two years, with an impressive 90 percent week-on-week boost. The success of the event reiterates the destination’s prominence in not only the retail and entertainment sectors, but as a community-focused hub.
At the heart of the celebration was the activation of the largest digital ceiling in Europe – almost 11,000 sq ft state-of-the-art installation – that captivated attendees with mesmerising Christmas animations, setting a new benchmark for immersive experiences in the UK. The countdown culminated in a cascade of festive displays, accompanied by live entertainment from a roving street band, DJ and percussion, and saxophonist.
December will continue the festive momentum with Printworks rolling out interactive activities for its visitors such as a 16ft fully digital advent tree featuring an interactive touch-screen window for daily prize draws.
The switch-on coincided with Printworks winning Best Technology & Innovation at the prestigious Revo’s 2024 Awards, exemplifying the destination’s influence, and position as a pioneer in the sector.
Dan Davis, Centre Manager at Printworks said: “2024 has been a game-changing year for Printworks. From welcoming innovative leisure operators to hosting vibrant experiential and innovative events, our £27m investment has redefined what a destination can offer. The success of our Christmas lights switch-on showcases the value of creating immersive, one-of-a-kind experiences.
Winning at the Revo Awards is equally rewarding. It’s a clear sign that both our peers and visitors recognise the innovation and dedication driving Printworks forward. With this momentum, we’re perfectly positioned to deliver an even more exciting 2025.”
2024 has been pivotal for Printworks, with highlights including its £27m transformation, the unveiling of the largest digital ceiling in Europe, and the addition of one of the UK’s biggest IMAX screens. The destination’s ability to attract record-breaking crowds and industry recognition cements its status as a leader in the leisure and entertainment space.
With this success, Printworks closes the year on a high note, setting the stage for continued creativity and community engagement in 2025.
