Civilians in Ukraine’s Sumy region have also been evacuated due to increased Russian attacks. Meanwhile, Moscow says a fire at an oil depot in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian east was caused by an attack from Ukraine’s military.
Three civilians were injured in a Russian airstrike in the Ukrainian region of Zaporizhzhia, local authorities said on Saturday.
According to Ukraine’s Interior Ministry, the attack was carried out using a guided aerial missile, targeting a residential area and local infrastructure.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine shared a video showing police and rescue teams working on the site.
Ukrainian authorities continued to evacuate residents from frontline areas of the Sumy region in northeast Ukraine that have come under frequent attacks by the Russian army, the Ukrainian National Police said.
Ukraine’s Minister of Reintegration Iryna Vereshchuk said on Friday almost 500 children and their families had been evacuated from areas in the Sumy region “due to the security situation”.
On the same day, Ukrainian media reported that the Russian forces had attacked the border areas and settlements of the Sumy Region almost 100 times.
Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko announced in late August that defence officials had agreed to evacuate 45,000 residents from Sumy amid ongoing attacks.
It comes as Ukrainian Volodymr Zelenskyy this week said Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine must end no later than 2025.
Fire rages while Russian officials visit a military site
Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations published a video on Saturday morning of a fire raging at an oil depot in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian city of Rovenky in the Luhansk region.
“At night, as a result of a drone attack, a fuel tank caught fire. The Russian Emergencies Ministry quickly extinguished the fire,” the video description says.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed that the Ukrainian Defence Forces hit a warehouse in Rovenky.
“This facility was used to store oil and oil products, which were supplied, among other things, for the needs of the Russian army. A fire was detected on the territory of the facility,” the Ukrainian General Staff said in a post published on social media platform Telegram.
Northwest, Russian Defence Minister Andrei Belousov inspected the Northern Fleet military facility on Saturday as part of a working visit to the Murmansk Region, the ministry reported.
Belousov visited the facility housing a range of new military equipment, such as the nuclear-powered submarine missile cruisers and electronic weapons, and toured the living quarters of the personnel, the ministry said.
