Russia fired several artillery shells at the town on Monday morning, damaging a number of houses, according to Dnipropetrovsk region Governor Serhii Lysak.
A 16-year-old girl has been killed in a Russian artillery attack on the Ukrainian town of Nikopol in the Dnipropetrovsk region, according to the authorities.
Dnipropetrovsk Governor Serhii Lysak posted pictures of the aftermath of the attack on Telegram, explaining that the body of the teenager was retrieved from the rubble after the strike.
He added that two men aged 79 and 74 and a 66-year-old woman were also injured.
Nikopol is situated on the banks of the Kakhovka Reservoir.
Its proximity to the Russian-occupied Enerhodar and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant makes it a frequent target of Russian strikes.
Russian strikes continue across Ukraine
It comes as Ukraine reports Russian attacks across its territory killed at least seven people and injured dozens more over the past day.
Regional governors have reported strikes in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Chernihiv and Mykolaiv since Saturday.
A Russian rocket attack against Sumy killed two civilians, according to the regional military administration.
Meanwhile, Ukraine claims to have downed six out of eight drones launched by Russia overnight, along with two Russian cruise missiles.
The Russian Ministry of Defence has released footage that it claimed shows its aviation crews carrying out air strikes on troops and armoured military equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region.
China announces joint military drills with Russia
China’s Defence Ministry has announced joint naval and air drills with Russia will start this month, underscoring the closeness between their militaries as Russia presses on with its invasion of Ukraine.
The ministry said the “Northern United 2024” exercises would take place in the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk further north but gave no details.
It said the naval and air drills aimed to improve strategic cooperation between the two countries and “strengthen their ability to jointly deal with security threats”.
The notice also said the two navies would cruise together in the Pacific, the fifth time they have done so, and participate in Russia’s “Great Ocean 24” exercise together.
