The attack on the Russian city damaged 76 apartments overnight, the city’s mayor Alexander Scriabin said, adding: “Measurements for window replacements are taking place in eight buildings, work will begin in the remaining six buildings tomorrow.”

A state of emergency has now been declared in the Rostov-on-Don district.

And Russia’s Defence Ministry said 18 Ukrainian drones were shot down over the region.

Meanwhile Ukraine’s Air Force claimed that dozens of Russian drones were also shot down over several cities by their air defences.

In Kyiv, an air raid warning was in effect for more than 11 hours.

Russia has sharply escalated the number of drones attacks launched at Ukraine this year.

And Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that the armed forces have launched a new offensive in Russia’s Kursk region.

On Sunday Russia’s Defence Ministry said it had repelled three new Ukrainian counterattacks there.
