The 46-year-old chef competed on Strictly Come Dancing back in 2005, finishing in fourth place with his professional partner Camilla Dallerup, 44.
Revealing what the world of Strictly is like, he was asked about the ‘curse’, explaining: “You are in this snowball, and it’s going downhill at 100 miles per hour.
“You are going in there and you don’t realise what you’re walking into.”
The Saturday Morning host continued: “It’s a bubble that you are in, and there’s nothing like it. And there is nothing else like it on TV in terms of audience, and the sway that the show has.
“It’s the biggest thing the BBC does.”
In light of 32-year-old comedian Seann and 29-year-old dancer Katya’s snog making headlines last weekend, James opened up about the media attention focused on Strictly stars.
“It’s all plastered on the front pages of the newspapers as soon as you get in there,” he said.
James has previously spoken out about the intensity of starring in Strictly Come Dancing, telling Prima he lost five stone during the course of his journey on the series.
“Once you get past week four, it’s seen days a week, 10 hours a day minimum,” he said.
This week, the Strictly sphere has been shaken up by Seann and Katya’s kiss, with both stars apologising on social media before their appearance on It Takes Two.
Last night, Seann told host Zoe Ball, 47: “I’m sorry for the hurt that I’ve caused.
“We had drinks and we made a huge mistake and I regret it deeply,” he continued, struggling to hold back tears.
The comedian then addressed his now ex-girlfriend Rebecca Humphries’ scathing letter which called him “controlling”, saying: “First of all, I would rather not be having to address this publicly but I feel like I have to.
“I’m not perfect, far from it, our relationship wasn’t perfect, that doesn’t mean that I wanted it to end the way that it finally did.
“I feel it’s also important for me to say that the people that know me the most, that love me, they know that I am not the person I am being portrayed as,” he insisted.
Actress Rebecca issued a lengthy statement to her 29,000 Twitter followers saying she was “not a victim”.
“I was alone at home when Seann texted at 10pm saying the two of them were going for one innocent drink,” she said.
“We spoke and I told him, not for the first time, that his actions over the past three weeks had led me to believe something inappropriate was going on.”
Also on It Takes Two last night, Katya addressed her marriage to husband Neil Jones, 35, saying: “I apologise to everyone it hurt and it involved.
“But the main thing for me is me and Neil are fine. I’m focusing on my job and doing it as professionally as I can.”
Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 6.40pm on BBC One.
