The World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight title belt is on the line tonight with undefeated champion Shakur Stevenson taking on challenger Artem Harutyunyan in a 12-round bout from Newark, New Jersey.
Stevenson (21-0-0, 10 KOs) enters the bout nearly a year removed from winning the vacant WBC world lightweight title over Edwin De Los Santos on Nov. 16, 2023. He’s continued his undefeated run to start his career despite moving up to the stacked lightweight class last year. His last fight in the super featherweight class was a unanimous decision win over Robson Conceicao, but Stevenson was stripped of his WBC and World Boxing Organization (WBO) titles for missing weight.

Harutyunyan (12-1-0, 7 KOs) is a rising challenger in the lightweight class. The Armenian-born German fighter made his debut in November 2017 and racked up five knockout wins in his first six bouts. He won the vacant WBC International Lightweight title on Sept. 25, 2021 but lost it by unanimous decision in his most recent bout against Frank Martin last July.

Predictions for Shakur Stevenson vs. Artem Harutyunyan
Bleacher Report: Stevenson via eighth-round TKO
Alex Ballentine writes: “[Harutyunyan] was aggressive to a fault against Frank Martin. He brought the fight to the American but also left himself vulnerable to counters. Martin was able to pick him off with regularity and his counterpunching carried his performance. Stevenson is an even better counterpuncher than Martin. His defense, quickness and mobility should carry the day and the added incentive to prove his worth before hitting free agency should be enough to accelerate the whole process.”
The Sporting News: Stevenson via unanimous decision
Tom Gray says: “Harutyunyan is guilty of going a bit wide with his punches, and against a sharp-shooting southpaw like Stevenson that could spell doom. The American’s feet are incredible and he just operates on a completely different dimension in terms of speed and reflexes. While this promises to be a long night for Harutyunyan, I do see him reaching the finish line before dropping a lopsided points decision.”
Forbes: Stevenson via unanimous decision
Josh Katzowitz writes: “Stevenson is going to make this look like an easy fight. It doesn’t seem likely that Stevenson is going to showcase his knockout power more now that he’s moved up in weight to 135 pounds, but his boxing skills are outstanding. He’ll win a decision, somewhere in the 118-110 range.”
