Certain players at Rangers FC need to be put in their place. Whoever the next manager is will be given full endorsement by the ELT at the club.
Players should be told if there is any question marks over their application on the Park, they’ll be drummed out the first team and will remain in the reserves. Then any dream of using Rangers as a stepping stone to the big 5 leagues goes up in smoke.
For that to be effective, we need to identify quality players who do dream of the big 5 leagues, who don’t want to stay in Scotland or go backwards. To balance that out, we need local guys who know what it means to play for the jersey and run through brick walls for the team.
Who manages them? Who can motivate them? Give them a rocket when they need it? That’s the big question. I’ve seen Kjetil Knutsen’s name floated about, but would he be interested? Can he do all of the above?
I never thought I’d say this again, but Steven Gerrard has many of those qualities. He walked away. He failed everywhere else he went. But you can’t deny he has key qualities that would make a real difference to us right now.
He also (still but diminishing) has a bit of that star power draw. I don’t think he has the tactical acumen, but can he come back with a solid #2? (Not Michael Beale).
I don’t know. And I’m not at all happy with how he left, but now, with the possible US takeover, he has that big star name they will like. Will the stars align to bring him back? The Club is at a fork in the road, got to hope for the best.
