Why did the Glasgow Rangers Board allow the mediocre players and injury prone players and players who ran down contracts to have stayed as long as they did?
Morelos could have been sold. Kent could have been sold all before their contracts ran out. Goldson and Tavernier could have been sold for cash earlier, probably about 2 years earlier. In fact, Goldson probably shouldn’t have had a new contract when his ran out. Diomande 4.5m seems a big outlay so far from what I’m seeing of him. Will we ever recoup that if he doesn’t improve?
I think we should terminate Cortes’ loan after his injury. Not sure he’s going to cut it in this league without falling to the long injury listed players we have had. What’s the obligation 4 million? Been injured too much already and that’s just a loan?
Every club has players that fans don’t deem good enough. Problem with us is it’s nearly a full squad and the difference with us is we genuinely can’t get rid of them. Where other clubs who deem players not good enough or unsuited to them seem to be able to move them on with little problems.
I’ve never known a club to have so much trouble moving players on for profit or even breaking even. We’re doing this year in year out genuinely and when we do get offered money, we decide to hang on to them until they run down their contracts and walk.
Why were we so quick to move Gio van Bronckhorst (GVB) on? Doesn’t matter if some of the support wanted him gone, what was the Board’s main excuse? What was the Board’s excuse inviting Michael Beale up to the game while GVB was still there? That was very poor and unprofessional on the club’s part for me.
Whoever is in charge of recruitment of these players, I don’t think Philippe Clement (PC), Beale, GVB or Steven Gerrard was ever in full control of transfers from what I’ve read on here from posters who have a bit of intel on the inside.
Some have said Beale got full control, but on another post someone said we had previously been scouting one or two of the players before Beale was here? Some have said there are players still arriving at the club now who we have been scouting the past couple years before the manager or previous managers were even part of the club. If that’s true, the blame can’t firmly be put on Beale, GVB, Gerrard or now PC.
Who is in total control of transfers? Why is a new manager been offered players we have previously scouted, why not let him and his team scout new players and go for fresh players who they think will move us forward. surely they have contacts within the game that they can come up with players on their own? What am I missing here?
If PC is to be trusted with the management of the team, then give him full control of a budget and let him work with it and see what he can do without offering players from previous years. Let him do his own thing? Was Cortes, Diomande, Jefte, Igamane, Nsiala his own signing?
With Barron, i always knew would be a great signing and didn’t cost much being at the end of his contract. I’ve said many times we need more players from Scotland, Barron shows why players from our league know the score when you bring in the right ones in, which we have done in years past and with Barron it can be done and can work, nobody can tell me otherwise.
I’m fed up watching players from the continent come and do nothing over the past few seasons and we have spent 4 million here and there and given big wages to unknown players. It’s clearly not working on our behalf and then we can’t move them on and they’re happy to sit idly by picking up the wage.
It all seems to happen to us far too often. One or two you can say that’s unfortunate, but the amount of players we want to move on and nobody sees them as viable transfer targets, surely you have to start asking yourself why?
Then ask and who gave the go ahead for us to buy them and what have they done to be given such high wages? I could be here all night asking questions, but nobody can explain apart from the folk who signed off on them.
