I find it bizarre that some people on southamptonrumours.co.uk think I’m the delusional one, simply because they don’t like humble pie.
I think it’s fair to say that there was a reasonable to high chance that if Russell Martin (RM) stayed, then Southampton would be relegated, agreed. However, in that same vein, I think it is just as fair to say that there would have been a reasonable to high chance he would have got us promoted again.
I literally said our board would replace like for like or with worse, now look who it looks like we’ve gone and got to replace him🤷🤦 Ivan Juric, a man sacked by the same club THREE times who with just a little googling had the info “regularly criticized for his management style and poor results” in his bio. You keep calling me nuts, but one of the various reasons why I said I was sticking with RM was our current board/recruitment are incompetent when it comes to finding the right man.
They’re the type who need a lengthy long term search to even come close to finding someone decent, not (like with all of their previous appointments) a knee jerk reaction to sacking someone under pressure. inevitably led by disgruntled fans, like you (another one of my points). It’s abundantly clear that no long term search was carried out here, or we wouldn’t Ivan Juric on his way to us.
We didn’t ‘take a punt’ on Poch’s and his appointment wasn’t the same as this Juric guy, our board / process wasn’t the same then as it is today. We didn’t scrape promotion that year either, we destroyed that league and probably should have won it. Yet, what did Adkins get as thanks for it? a swift boot out of the exit, the same door he probably passed Pardew on the way in when the role was reversed, by the same board operating in the same way. We had a ruthless/shrewd board who went after what they wanted, we don’t have that now.
I’ll go on record right now saying if Ivan Juric is our manager we will be relegated, he will struggle in the championship and people will be calling for his head within a year.
I’m not going to enjoy the next year or so as we sink into obscurity, my only slight joy will be seeing the ones here who think I’m the delusional one slowly come to the realization that actually, it can get a lot worse.
