World records set in Texas or by Texans in 2024

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Many in Texas had the opportunity to accomplish new goals in 2024, and some even broke a Guinness World Record in the process.

As a new year begins, look back at the 23 world records that were made in Texas during 2024.

Most

Beyoncé is one Texan who had an amazing year of breaking records.

She broke five records, mostly surrounding the release of her country album, Cowboy Carter.

Beyoncé set the record for:

• Most Grammy nominations
• Most Grammy nominations for Record of the Year
• Most Grammy nominations for a female artist
• Most Grammy nominations in a single year for a female artist
• First Black female artist to top Billboard’s Hot Country Songs Chart

Most expensive Spider-Man comic

On Jan. 11, a copy of The Amazing Spider-Man #1 was purchased for $1.38 million in a sale based in Dallas.

“First published in March 1963 – for a cover price of just 12 cents – it marked the launch of Spider-Man in his own comic-book title and included the character’s origin story as well as a team-up with the Fantastic Four. Spider-Man was created by Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko and debuted in 1962,” Guinness said. 

Most criminals positively identified due to the composites of one artist

In February, Guinness confirmed Lois Gibson (USA, Texas) broke the record for the most criminals positively identified due to the composites of one artist. The record was set at 1,313, according to Guinness.

Most personal hygiene kits assembled in one hour

According to Guinness, the most personal hygiene kits assembled in one hour is 8,500. The record was achieved July 6 by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in Dallas.

Most signatures on a car

According to Guinness, the most signatures on a car is 5,151. Tuan Tran “Sky” Le achieved the record July 20 in Galveston.

Most users to take an online financial literacy lesson in 24 hours

The most users to take an online financial literacy lesson in 24 hours is 1,812. It was achieved Sept. 23-24 by Capital One in Plano.

“The lesson covered topics such as budgeting for a vehicle, saving, and paying for college,” Guinness said.

Largest

Largest collection of videogame kiosks

On Feb. 16, the record for the largest collection of videogame kiosks was broken. The record is 100, and it was achieved by Travis Alfrey in Austin.

Alfrey told Guinness he decided to attempt this record hoping it would bring the community together to proudly showcase their collections as well.

Largest fruit display

The largest fruit display weighs 86,764 pounds and was achieved by El Rio Grande Latin Market in Dallas on May 3, according to Guinness.

“The display of 301,000 avocados was created to celebrate the Mexican-American cultural holiday Cinco de Mayo,” Guinness said.

Largest dripping pendulum painting

On May 18, Cole Newman achieved the record for the largest dripping pendulum painting. The painting is 2,210.4 square meters, according to Guinness.

While in Dallas, Guinness said Newman and his team of 20 people worked on the project to achieve the milestone.

Largest collection of Selena memorabilia

Guinness said the largest collection of Selena memorabilia is 1,308 items.

The record was achieved June 28 by Andrew Longoria in Lake Jackson, Texas.

Longoria told Guinness he was inspired to start his collection by his grandmother’s Elvis Presley memorabilia and his love of Selena. He said his favorite item was a canvas painting of Selena in her Grammy dress.

Largest charcuterie platter/board

According to Guinness, the largest charcuterie board weighed 1,032 pounds, 0.4 ounces.

The record was achieved by Central Market in Austin on Sept. 11.

Fastest time to eat a muffin

According to Guinness, the fastest time to eat a muffin is 10.68 seconds. Ethan Vidrine in Fort Worth achieved the record on Jan. 8.

Vidrine told Guinness he decided to try this record attempt as he loves to eat, especially fast.

He also dedicated this accomplishment to his daughter and told Guinness he hoped it would remind her that anything in life is possible as long as you set your mind to it.

Fastest time to eat 6 glazed doughnuts

On Jan. 8, Vidrine also took the record for the fastest time to eat 6 glazed doughnuts at 2 minutes, 9.96 seconds. The record was accomplished in Fort Worth.

Vidrine said he had wanted to achieve a Guinness World Records title since he was a child, and now he has two!

Fastest half marathon wearing handcuffs (male)

The record for the fastest half marathon while wearing handcuffs for a man is 1 hour, 20 minutes and 36 seconds. The achievement was accomplished by TaMar Hicks in Fort Worth on Feb. 25.

Hicks told Guinness he attempted this record because he needed a mental triumph of doing something he would never have thought he could do. He said he hoped to inspire others to overcome obstacles in their lives.

Longest

Longest leather belt

Guinness said the longest leather belt is 829 feet, 6.72 inches, and it was achieved Feb. 5 by Bryan Sosack in Fort Worth.

Sosack told Guinness he made this attempt to honor his brother, who was also a professional leather crafter.

Nearly three whole cowhides were used to craft the belt, according to Guinness.

Longest survivor of an artificial double heart valve replacement (female)

Maryann Kozlowski broke the record for the longest female survivor of an artificial double heart valve replacement.

Kozlowski received the double valve replacement Dec. 3, 1974, and had the valves for 49 years and 92 days when the record was confirmed on March 4.

The achievement was verified in San Antonio, according to Guinness.

Other

Highest score on NES Tetris (NTSC)

The most points scored on Tetris (NES) is 8,952,432, according to Guinness, and the record was achieved by Andrew “P1xelAndy” Artiaga in Fort Worth on Jan. 11.

Guinness said P1xelAndy is a competitive Tetris player and has achieved top-three placings in the Classic Tetris World Championships. He was also the third person to ever “beat” the game.

Widest tongue (female)

According to Guinness, the widest tongue for a female measures 3.11 inches at its widest point and belongs to Brittany Lacayo. Lacayo’s tongue was measured in Houston on Feb. 16.

Lacayo told Guinness the people who know her have always commented on how wide her tongue is, so she said she decided to make it official by applying for the Guinness World Record title.

Oldest living horse

Guinness said the oldest living horse is Echoquette, who was born May 8, 1988. Echoquette was 36 years and 193 days old when Guinness verified the record in Austin on Nov. 8.
