A wrong-way driver was arrested after colliding with five other vehicles and injuring three people in two separate wrecks along the 60 and 215 freeways in the Riverside/Moreno Valley area early Sunday, April 28, authorities said.
Around 2:15 a.m., the suspect driver was heading northbound in the southbound lanes on the 215 Freeway, near Eucalyptus Street, when they collided with two other vehicles along the transition road from the westbound 60 Freeway to the southbound 215, California Highway Patrol Officer Javier Navarro told video news agency OnScene.TV.
About five minutes after the first collision, the driver continued on westbound 60 Freeway lanes until they crashed head-on with three other vehicles, Navarro said.
The driver fled on foot and was found somewhere along Day Street, just off the freeway, suffering from major injuries.
The driver, whose identity was not immediately available on Sunday, was taken to a hospital and later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, hit-and-run and driving on the wrong side of the freeway.
Three victims from the five vehicles caught in the wrecks were also taken to a hospital for varying injuries.
